Taking a Closer Look

Friday, April 19, 2013

I'm pensive today. Some small events occurred yesterday which required me to do some serious self evaluation. It is a good thing. I think it is best illustrated by the story around this little lady bug picture.

I was weeding one of my gardens last week when I noticed this little lady bug on a weed on a rock. I'm one of those odd creature lovers who carries spiders outside when I'm cleaning the house. You know the type. Anyway, I stopped to encourage this little lady to fly away, but she did not comply. So I pulled out my phone, took her picture, and moved her to a wooden cask planter where we have a citrus tree. I continued weeding and didn't think of her again until that evening when I transferred this picture from my phone to my computer.

It was then, in the enlarged and color enhanced version, that I noticed that little lady had an injured wing. No wonder she couldn't fly away. It reminded me, today, that I always need to "take a closer" look at situations and at people. There may be hurts, or pains, or ulterior conditions that are important to consider, especially before I respond.

Yesterday was a day when I reacted instead of responding thoughtfully to a situation. It wasn't a serious situation, but, it caused me to reflect and vow to not repeat my less than attractive behavior.

Today is a new day. Thank goodness for a fresh start. I am grateful. I'm looking forward to a healthy mind, body, and spirit.........and being more of a "lady".
I'm wishing you all the same!
Leslie

That is a good reminder for all of us. I remember a past psychology book..You are not the target. There are always variables that we may not have thought with other people's reactions. That applies to difficult students as well!

Today is a great day for a new start. Have a wonderful day. Hugs.

That was a beautiful picture but I have to admit that I wonder what the alternative to taking her to another place would have been...

Thanks for the share, sometimes I don't stop to think before I talk. I can be insensitive. Need to remember to think before I open my mouth. Great example.

Well, life is painful sometimes, for ladybugs and for us mere mortals.
Hope you're feeling better after a day of reflection.

What a wonderful lesson. I'm not sure if it is a parable, an analogy, or something else. However, it is something profound to ponder. I remember reading a quote something like, "Be kind; everyone is carrying his own burden."

Thank goodness every day gives us a new opportunity to start fresh. What a gift! emoticon

Yes, I am with you on taking the "friends" outside. For years, my DH said I never vacuumed the cobwebs... I always did, but never hurt or moved the spiders LOL Good post about really looking and seeing and responding mindfully. emoticon

    I love ladybugs! emoticon
Last week I happened upon a co-worker who was "escorting" a ladybug out of the building. I offered to take it for him, since I was walking that direction anyway.

I love the idea of at least stopping to photograph things to examine later. It's an effective way to review the day and catch things that might have been missed.

Our society doesn't particularly encourage lots of thinking before we act. Good for you for evaluating and taking steps toward the behavior you want. Thanks for the thought to ponder.
