    You have made great progress this week despite being depressed. Well done!
    My chime on the gum issue is that it probably stimulates your digestive system - and the stomach and digestive acids could well be causing the stomach problem. (and that's apart from the damage that the chemical sweeteners could be causing - as in the comment above).

    Yeah gum is pretty bad for you. Each sugar free stick has 5-10 calories and if you are chewing alot that will add up. I bet sugared gum has even more calories per stick. Also, sugar free gum contains aspartame and other sweeteners like sucralose. Both of these sweeteners are also found in diet soda and have been studied enough that they've found links to weight gain from using them. In particular aspartame has been linked to nerve and auto immune disorders and other serious side effects.

    You should switch to a gum that contains xylitol as the sweetner. That will be hard since the popular name brand gums all use aspartame, sucralose, and/or real sugar. You can find natural gums at places like Whole Foods (organic grocery store chain) or online. Even some Asian markets have gum made with xylitol.
