My days have been a giant blur this week - And quite literally on Tuesday! I had my first eye exam since I had lasik surgery in 2001! The good news is, my distance vision is fine. The not-so-wonderful news is I needed new reading glasses. I sure can't complain - before I had the lasik surgery, I was in tri-focals!
The worst part were the drops my awesome eye doctor puts in my eyes to dialate my pupils - I looked like I was on LSD and was so light sensitive for hours!
Yesterday, my order from Arbico Organics came in - Beneficial nematodes and Neem Oil. A little before dusk, I put the nematodes in my trusty hose-end sprayer and sprayed the entire garden and most of the back yard with three different kinds of the little buggers! For those who don't know, beneficial nematodes are microscopic organisms that attack insects - adults, eggs and larva - and destroy them. Naturally. And they don't hurt humans or pets! Before I had a garden and house, I used only the ones that controlled fleas and other pests. Spray the yard, and bugs die before they can enter the house. Even the squirrels in the yard are healthier, because the nematodes kill off the fleas in the yard.
So tonight, I got home and decided to till the area behind the shed. All done! If it's dry enough this weekend, I'll till and rake all the areas, and maybe plant some okra - if the Almanac says it's a good planting day!
The jalapenos and poblano peppers, and cucumbers I started in the potting shed are up - it will be a few weeks before I can plant them in the garden. The compost is also coming along nicely! I will most likely use this first batch to side-dress and mulch what I've already planted. Then I can till it all in after I've harvested. It's been pretty dry this season, so I have to remember to wet-down the compost.
When I checked today, I have more tomatoes, and the green peppers are flowering! Also, one or two bean plants are up in the new rows. I'm also to the point where I'll have to start thinning the carrots. Much to do on the next dry day this weekend! I'll get a few more pictures, too.
Well, that's it for now. I need to get some sleep - TTFN!
