Yipppeeee....

Thursday, April 18, 2013

I got a call about a job (elder care) yesterday and am going over for the free first visit tomorrow at 1:30.

I took some time off after my last client (of over three years -the history professor) passed away mid-February. His memorial service was mid-March and I started (slowly) looking for a new position after that.
I never imagined I'd be out of work for two months- certainly have enjoyed the break but I NEED to work- my teacher pension and my hubby's retirement work barely cover all our living expenses (damn health insurance is a big part of that- don't get me started!).

Plus, my implied agreement with dh when I retired fairly young (at 54, after 28 yrs of teaching to care for my dying mother the last yr of her life) was that I would work part time after retirement to supplement my pension.

So, my potential new client (sounds like a good situation for me) is another retired professor, quite elderly, who is in fairly good health (I don't care for folks with great medical needs) who cannot be left alone and who's family needs some relief.

I'll keep you posted!

Wishing you the best! I don't think I could do that but I applaud you for doing it! And I know that it is hard to make ends meet when health insurance is thrown into the mix. Both DH and I are retired and on Medicare with a supplement and drug insurance. That takes a lot of our money per month!!!

They'd be lucky to get you! Put them in touch with your Professor's family.

I understand about the health insurance! Ugh!

I'm sure that it's very rewarding. For several years I was a Hospice volunteer, just spending time with people who were mostly lonely. They gave me so much more than I gave....

Good luck.

Kathy
