The Year Without a Spring

Thursday, April 18, 2013

It is April 18 and we are having more snow! This wouldn't be quite so bad if the winter accumulation had melted but we still had over a foot on the ground and at this point I am beginning to wonder if it will ever melt. I have two tables and two shelves of seedlings under lights but they need to get outside and I am not sure when that will happen. I need to plant my cabbage and broccoli seedlings but don't want to start too early. When it looks like things are warming up a bit I will start my vine crops such as squash, melons and cucumbers but I want those on the small side before I set them out. I am concentrating on heirloom vegetables this year and plan to save some of the seeds so I can grow more of them next year. I live in northern Minnesota where we do have long winters but this is ridiculous!

I wish I could grow all those things like you! Soil in Fl is crummy!

We're having an exceptionally long winter, too. Lots of snow and more keeps coming. It's supposed to snow again this afternoon. Now, there is concerns of flooding due to all the snow here and up in Canada. We had severe flooding a couple years ago and have just started to get some real recovery going. If it happens, again...

I've got plants under grow lights in my basement, too: peppers, tomatoes, cabbage, egg plants, etc. They may be huge by the time I get them outside.

Have a good weekend and stay warm. emoticon

You poor thing. I live in Southwest Ohio and spring keeps trying to come out to play, but old man winter won't let it. At least we don't have snow. emoticon

Where in the world are you??? We have cold rain this morning and the temp has dropped about 20 degrees. I can't get anything done in the yard...but no snow. You poor thing! Keep those lights going and if worse comes to worse...pot the seedlings until summer. Keep Sparkin'!!

I do have spring and I'm out there in it! I so sympathize with you! I love being in the yard and when you're ready---the snow is even harder to take. Spring will come, I hope your seedlings can wait, glad you have them under lights. I'd send you sunshine if I could. Be well.

    Hope the snow disappears soon.
