Look How Far I've Come

Thursday, April 18, 2013

I was at the chiropractor today and he reminded me of how far I've come in the past 4 years.

4 years ago this month, it took me 3 hours just to vacuum my normal-sized living room. I was in bed for two days afterward, to boot. Now I can vacuum and do other chores too. And while I might be a bit sore, I'm not in bed.

After I went to a specialist and got headed on the road to wellness, I started with a 30 min. postpartum exercise video. My kids seriously wanted to call 9-1-1 during my first workout because I was laboring for breath so badly. Now I am doing Zumba for one hour, 5 days a week.

4 years ago I would binge on a whole familiy size bag of Ruffles chips and a jar of french onion dip. Today I had one handful of flax chips and a couple of tablespoons of mango salsa to dip them in.

4 years ago I would have veggies at dinner only. Now I have veggies at every meal, including breakfast.

You are so right - we need to recognize and celebrate the successes we DO have on our journey! We can't control what the scale says. We CAN control whether we exercise, how hard, what choices we make each time we eat... All those small steps we DO take (YES, I exercised for 10 minutes even though I didn't feel like it!) add up and ultimately take us where we want to go!

That is so wonderful. I am hoping that I, too, can gradually make the progress that leads to vibrant living. You are an awesome example of the power to overcome the odds and make a good and healthy life for yourself and enjoy it too!
