I wrote a book last year called The Cornbread Bible. It has recipes from family and friends and stories to go along with the recipes. I call it a recipe storybook. I mostly wrote it for my family and friends, but to my absolute amazement, it took off on Amazon and there are thousands of copies circulating either as a paperback or Kindle book.
So now, I've become "The Queen of Cornbread" and I've been asked to judge some cornbread contests. One is coming up this weekend. They also asked me to judge their canning contest, since I do that, too. I am really excited and happy about it, but it does pose some Spark challenges.
The Sucarnochee Folklife Festival is this weekend. Some contests judge on appearance and looking at the recipe. Others, you actually taste the entry. In this festival, you taste the entry. Some challenges this will pose for me will be exercise, food tracking and calorie consumption. I have no idea how many "tastes" of jam and jelly or pickles and preserves I may have to (get to) taste, but it will surely add up to some calories. When I'm not judging, I'll be either on stage reading excerpts from the book or sitting at a book signing/sales table. Not a lot of exercise opportunity there. The festival ends at 4 and then I'll be driving 250 miles back home. More sedentary time.
This is a great and super fun event for me... please don't think I am anything other than honored and grateful to be asked to do this... but I do think I need to plan for what likely lies before me.
I think my best strategy is to try to get some additional exercise minutes in today and tomorrow, if possible, and stay really low cal for breakfast and dinner on Saturday. Does anyone have any other ideas?
