I have been battling sickness since March 9th. Two weeks before getting sick I was feeling pretty happy that I had "almost" made it through the winter without getting sick. In fact, I couldn't remember the last time I was sick. I spoke too soon.

It started with a virus -- sore throat, body aches, headache, fatigue. Then the head cold moved in, followed by the cough. For 7-10 days, it was nasty business. I saw the CRNP at my primary care provider's office. She diagnosed me with bronchitis and a sinus infection. I went through 10 days of a 14 day prescription of Clarithromycin (NASTY antibiotic) and Albuterol. I'm allergic to penicillin, so it's always a struggle. After 7 days, she tossed Nasonex into the mix. I had to stop the antibiotic after 10 days due to major stomach distress and other unpleasantness.

A week later, it was back with a vengeance. I saw the Physician Assistant at my workplace (because I couldn't see my doctor or the CRNP). He prescribed Doxycline, recommended I also take a probiotic, and for me to continue with the Nasonex & Albuterol. Four days later, it was even WORSE. So I called the doctor's office. Neither my doctor or the CRNP were available but I saw another doctor in the practice.

She suggested the only thing holding off pneumonia at that point was the Doxycycline. She prescribed to continue with the probiotic, doxy, mucinex, albuterol, nasonex, and she added a 5-day prescription of prednisone. That upset me, but today will be day 3 of that (I take 2 20mg pills with dinner) and I have to admit, I'm feeling some better. I've also been using my Nasopure (modern day neti pot) in the shower every day.

HOWEVER, I woke up early this morning and took my blood sugar ... AND IT WAS 258 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! That totally stresses me out. The doctor warned me the prednisone would elevate my blood sugar, but this is scary.

I was terminated from the 10 week student trainer program (with only 2 weeks remaining) because I'm not fit to exercise. For the past month, the workouts have been pretty ineffective because of my ongoing sickness and sporadic at best. I know, I have to be patient and kick this thing. That also means I'll have to start all over with my couch to 5k training and won't make the 5k on June 8. All very disappointing to me.

So I've basically been miserable for over a month, I'm gaining weight, I'm on all of the meds described above PLUS my regular meds (metformin, pravastatin, lisinopril).

I am feeling very discouraged, losing my patience with this whole sickness thing, and I very much dislike taking all these meds. I also don't want to end up in the hospital. DD is moving in less than 2 weeks and I really can't be sick. It's my busiest time of the year at work. It's spring and I want to be outside moving around.

I feel like I'm going lose my mind!

Thanks for allowing me to vent, friends. I could really use some encouragement. I know many of you have experienced struggles far greater than mine.

I'm sorry you've been so ill, but glad you are feeling better. I had that for about 2 months Jan-Feb, and just couldn't do anything. I was always out of breath, and it was exhausting with the constant cough, and hard enough to just to get through the work day. I had a hard time just getting in 10 min walking each day. But, my body healed, and it took a long time to be able to get back into a routine, and the deep cough lasted through March. Very frustrating, but with baby steps, and many shots and meds, I'm feeling much stronger. It just takes time, rest, and patience.

You can do this!! Be patient!

Thanks for your support, friends. I'm feeling much better than earlier in the week and today is my last dosage of Prednisone. Not ready to start working on the 5k again yet, but my plan is to get out for a walk and maybe some gentle strength and core training for today. I will start VERY slow and build back up. I appreciate your comments and well wishes!

    If venting help, VENT AWAY!
You're in my prayers. I was down for a few weeks in February/March: flu, sinus infection, cough, etc. I'm also allergic to penicillin and all its cousins. It took time to recover. Don't try to rush it, in spite of your frustration. My patience paid off, I had to start my running all over, but I'm back to where I was before. You can do it!

I pray that you are feeling better soon. My son had the same thing right before Thanksgiving and started to feel better in February after I put my foot down and told him he had to see a different doctor since the one he was seeing wasn't helping. After a shot and some different meds he finally got over it!

so sorry this has been such a miserable month for you! HUGS and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Yes, unfortunately Predisone really sky rockets the blood sugar . . . so does Nasonex!

So sorry to hear your sickness has been so awful. I do hope you shake it off soon.
There is still a chance you could make that 5k there are still at least 6 weeks to go. If not, there will be others where you will be better prepared.

Well that really bites...being sick is not only tough on the body but I think it is worse on the emotions. Vent away as it is better to say it than eat it! Hopefully this new regime will work more effectively than previous treatments. Did you get a lung xray? Also a pic of your sinuses would be helpful.

Drink fluids, rest and visualize yourself strong and healthy. It will come sooner than later. Your body is telling you to stop, so at this point I think that is the only thing that will work for your recovery......

Sending positive thoughts your way

Hugs
