Ever since Sparkpeople has been advertising about fitbit, I was trying to find someone (anyone?!) who actually had one and what they thought about it.
Perhaps I didn't look hard enough... but i couldn't find many people. And those i did find, didn't have much to say about it-- besides that they liked it.
When i realized I could get it 25% off through my work discount via Verizon-- I jumped at the chance.
People have been asking me what my thoughts were, and how it has helped me. After having my fitbit for almost a week, I can honestly say I LOVE IT.
And here is why...
For me-- its all about motivation. I have already lost 130lbs in a little over a year, and the weight doesn't come off easily anymore! I was in about a two month slump where I wasn't making much of an effort and was easily discouraged. Knowing that I have this thing on me that tracks EVERY move i make, I feel myself being more active. You earn points and badges which seems pretty silly, but it is something to be proud of. You can link it with SparkPeople, which is where I keep track of the food I eat. It absolutely blows my mind that everything syncs up together, and I don't have to do anything to make that happen. When i walk-- it sends it to the internet and tracks how many calories i burn, how long i was active, how many steps i took, and how far i traveled (and when). When i sleep/wake up-- it tracks how long it took me to fall asleep, how many hours of sleep i actually got, and how many times during the night i woke up-- and sends it to the internet. The scale tracks my weight, body fat percentage, and BMI-- and syncs that info with the internet as well.
By no means am I saying that everyone should go out and buy all these things... It just has been working great for me! Before, all I paid attention to was my weight once a week, and when my weight loss slowed down/stopped when i added lifting weights into my routine-- I HATED it. I know I was gaining muscle, but being the visual person I am, it killed me. The scale and the fitbit keep track of so many things, that it makes me feel more in control and accountable.
So yes-- I will say that FitBit gave me my mojo back!! Happy to report that after using it for less than a week, I have already lost 5 lbs!
