Resources to Help Child with ADHD Do His Homework?

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Yes, this request applies directly to my healthy living journey - I caught myself wanting to eat due to the frustration of dealing with my 12 YO son and his homework.

Please let me know if you all know of any resources to help me help him get him to do his homework. We have four problems areas:

1. Writing his homework in his assignment notebook. We can access much of this info OL, but not doing #1 at school causes problems with #2.

2. Bringing home the materials he needs to do the homework.

3. Actually doing the homework. This is especially a problem if I am working in the late afternoon. He usually ignores the homework alarm on his phone.

4. Turning in his homework.

Nate is usually quite content to just read and read and read. He does not have free access to electronics. Nothing seems to motivate him. I don't like how I am with him when the frustration sets in. Plus, he needs to learn how to do this work.

What I used to do with my son, along with his dad's cooperation - We had to see what the assignment was (i.e. writing it in his workbook) before we went to step #2 that you have listed. No TV, playtime, etc. until we saw the assignment AND the work was completed to our satisfaction.

Don't know if you can enforce that with backup from your DH but that was the main thing we did. From my frustrating experience with my son, boys just don't like to do homework. Good luck with yours.
