It has been an interesting day today that will be capped off by my deep water fitness class. I really enjoy that hour. Not only am I in the water (which will alter any negative vibe for me), I am doing all sorts of activities that I struggle to do on land under full stress of gravity (think pirouettes, jettes, and all manner of tumbling maneuvers). It is great fun and brings back the gleeful, acrobatic child in me.
That said, it is also an hour that has helped me realize how far I had let myself go prior to starting this journey to health. When I began the class several weeks ago, I had already lost a significant amount of weight, but I had not yet done any cardio work to build endurance. What a difference it has made! I barely made it through the first few classes puffing and panting like a steam engine screaming down the tracks. Now, not only do I make it through the entire class, I am able to add additional resistance tools to make my body work a little harder yet.
As for the "fun" factor, I highly recommend it! We are a group off (mostly) women over 40 who spend much of the hour working hard, but giggling like kids as we bump int each other while hopping like rabbits, running water sprints, and doing water crunches in a long, convoluted Conga line. Needless to say, I LOVE that hour of controlled insanity at the end of a usually stressful day!
