THE BLIND EXCUSE

It's funny how when you are losing weight people will ask you about it and so many will say, "Well I can't do that." It can be ANYTHING! I walk, I run, I bike, I eat right, whatever and they'll say, "Well, I this and I that" There is ALWAYS an excuse! I don't have time.. my husband, my wife, my feet, my knee, my back, my LIFE!
And trust me, I have been there too. I still do it sometimes! If there is something you really do not want to do you will find an excuse. But on the other hand if there is something you TRULY want, then you will find a way.
Sometimes you just want to say, Why don't you just be honest and say, You just don't want it bad enough. Because that is what it is really all about. It's not about not being able to give up sodas or chocolate or having time to walk in place while you watch your favorite shows. It's about how bad you want it.
And I'm sorry if this post sounds harsh. It's just a little venting. Over the weekend a few people were asking me about my weight loss and I got the same excuses over and over from different people just like I have from dozens of people over the past year. And again. I WAS THERE TOO! I still am at times. So this post I guess is to me too. So I will always remember to ask myself, How bad do you want it? What is it worth to you? Is it worth not grabbing that bag of chips? Is it worth a 15 minute walk? Is it worth jogging in place while you watch The Voice? I say, YES!! YES! YES! and YES!!! It is SO worth it and more!!!
Never ever forget that!! YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!

    I know what you mean. Losing weight takes time and energy, and many people either have surgery or take a pill. I appreciate you writing the blog because I struggle with my goals but at least, I am trying and doing and walking, etc. emoticon emoticon Love, Chelsea

    I don't think it sounds harsh. I think it rings true for a lot of people but at the same time, some people actually do have valid reasons why they may not be able to do something or why it is more challenging and that's when maybe a suggestion about modifying an exercise or whatever it may be would be helpful.

    AMEN!!!! I couldn't have said it better myself. I even have a friend who thinks that because I lost 74 pounds, it must be easy. It's NOT! She never wants to hear how I did it or how long it took, she just knows it must be easy. I've found that's the attitude most people take, they don't want to know how you did it or what you're doing, they just want a magic pill to make the weight go away. The few that ask, always say what you said, Oh I can't do THAT! But, like you said, it's a daily choice. Great blog!

    Thanks for posting this. I've got something to do this afternoon that will take up some time for me, and I've been sitting here debating if I'm going to exercise. I'm pretty sure you just talked me into it. Ha. So thanks!

    I know this will sound bad, but I see these same excuses on Spark all the time. People say that they want weight loss or a healthier life all the time, but they aren't willing to make the time for it or put in much effort. I took a hiatus from Spark for awhile because it's frustrating considering I try to read and comment on everyone's statuses and blogs. A little bit of consistency and effort will take you far!

    Last time I mentioned on a post that people shouldn't make excuses the poster responded very indignantly that they never made excuses just wanted to have certain conditions when exercising. They were most indignant. I apologized but I still don't see the difference between conditions and excuses. If you are waiting for the right time, ideal place etc. you are still putting off for tomorrow what you should do today. I certainly never said I don't make excuses, of course I do and some are so subtle in my own mind I don't know that I am making them. As you say, if you really find something is a priority you will get it done. That being said I think it is okay too, to let yourself off the hook sometimes and just goof off. We all need to do that too! Great blog with lots of thought provoking info. emoticon

    Exactly!! As the weight recorder in my TOPS chapter, I hear all the excuses. In fact, this week I am doing the program on exercise and I made little business cards with the sign : NO EXCUSES. I'm tired of people saying why they can't do something!
