Blisters and rain...

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

That hot spot on my heel turned out to be not one but two blisters, plus I had one on the ball of my foot. Ouch! I had to drain the one on the ball of my foot because it just hurt too much to walk on it. That one is much better today, but the heel still hurts. Of course all the blisters are on one foot. I think this means that running is out for tomorrow, but I bet I can do the elliptical and the bike. It will have to be a slightly shorter gym workout anyway, as I have to take the dog to the groomer. He doesn't really NEED to go, but it is one of his favorite things, so I indulge him every couple months.

So, walking today wasn't a lot of fun, and to top it off it rained most of the day. For some reason the rain didn't bother Cooper as much as usual, so we still got in 3 good walks, but it made ME grumpy. And I was sooo hungry today. I wasn't yesterday, but today I could probably clear out the cupboards if I gave myself permission to overindulge. I am especially craving carbs and salt. I have stuck to my meal plan for the day, but it took some real will power and determination.

Sorry about the blisters. I have to be so careful with my feet when I run or walk longer distances. I bought some compression socks which are fantastic and worn by marathon runners and haven't had a blister since I started wearing them. I also put vaseline on my feet every morning or night with cotton socks and that helps sooth any raw areas.

Hope you feel better soon.

I hate blisters! They hurt so bad but you feel silly, it's just a blister!

I hope you heal up soon.

I poke a couple of holes in a blister and it heals quickly. I was undecided about it for years, but when I started hiking I found it the quick fix. I hope you are ok soon.

Good idea to find alternatives to the long walks for right now. Those blisters need a little time to heal before they get infected.

I like the idea of a mineral soak for your feet while Cooper gets groomed !

those electrolytes and carbs for recovery can't be overlooked. I don't recall what you took along for energy on the way (trail mix, fruit, nuts, protein sandwich on whole grain???? it is as important as the water. Don't serious runners carry energy gels?)

Wednesday, a day at the groomer/spa..Cooper has this figured out- maybe you should also indulge in a mineral soak and massage for your feet. you will have them happy again soon

Please be sure you are supporting your extra activity with those nutrients (and caloried) in your food tracker. Okay? Potassium and sodium are REAL important.
