First Blog...ever

This is the beginning of my new life. Rather than just journal, I want to put it here because I spend time on SP and there is no sense in carving out two separate times to document my journey.

I have been overweight since my early 20s. I have finally decided to change for good and adopt a new lifestyle. I'm not trying to get skinny and be in the movies or anything, I just want to be closer to a normal weight, not worry about my blood pressure and not be the fattest parent at my daughter's college graduation this December! LOL.

The steps I have taken are (1) join the UAMS weight loss program that uses HealthOne Meal Replacements and offers a dietitian for the full 16 week program. We go to class once each week with our dietitian and learn about why we are this way, steps to change and we support others in our group all going through it together. (2) join SparkPeople to help me track my daily progress. I have found that I suck at counting steps which led me to (3) buy a good pedometer! Of all the crazy things to be excited about, I am excited about a pedometer! I think its because I am a bit of a nerd and I like data - accurate data. I am afterall the database administrator for my organization. (Big cheesy smile!)

This is my beginning. I started at 232 lbs and as of last Thursday I am 223 lbs. I am feeling good, a little more confident and am looking forward to the journey!

    Great job! Being accountable in front of others is a BIG effort and makes me think about how I really want and better yet need to be for the rest of my life. So happy for you! 5 years ago I was at my heaviest - 217lbs. Lost 90 of that in a year, now back up to 140+ and need to get busy once again! You can do this! WE can do this! :)

    I, too, use SP for my weekly blog - sometimes more often. I subscribe to a few of the daily & weekly newsletters/emails on SP and have found that they have caused me to make SP a priority in my daily routine. One of my daily goals is to hit at least 25 points so I can spin the Bonus Wheel! I have promised myself - NO CHEATING - and be honest with myself in whatever I am posting. I enjoy trivia, so I answer the three (or more if you miss) questions everyday, take a poll, have already done ALL the quizzes, read the Insider, listen to Spark Radio, read a recipe, log my water intake and much more. It is amazing how much we can learn from SP! I also share many of the videos, articles, and recipes with my "friends" on FaceBook - in hope of getting them to join.

If you are really decided to lose the weight stick around SP, I know you'll make it, I've lost/maintain 25 pounds off and it feels great, it is not easy but it's worth it.
