Chewing Gum Addiction

I'm really hoping that someone will be able to offer some real advice. I've struggled with a chewing gum addiction on and off for most of my life. (I'm talking old-fashioned, sugary bubble gum!)

I've tried chewing on other things like flavored toothpicks and teething rings, but I think the sugar has a lot to do with the cravings.

Right now I'm drinking decaf chai tea with unsweetened soy milk to soothe the craving, but it's not really helping much.

    I chew Freedent. I don't have dentures but I like that brand because it doesn't stick to my teeth so it isn't as bad as sugary chewing gums are. emoticon

    Is it the chewing or having something sweet in your mouth?

    I had to give up chewing gum due to dental issues! Urghh, I understand how hard it is. What has helped me is keeping a supply of fresh veggies: carrots and celery are my favorites. I can satisfy my urge and then stop chewing with the veggies. With the gum it was mostly mindless chewing as a way to relieve stress.

    Did you try sugar free gum? I bet your taste buds would adjust if you gave it a few days. They make so many great flavors of Sugar Free. Stay away from BubbleYum. I remember that from when I was a kid. Slimmy and way too sweet! Good luck in your search for an alternative!
