My Friend Fran....a loss to the earth but a gain to heaven

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

It's been a hard 12 days.... Phil and I lost our friend Fran
So I just wanted you to know a bit about her. I befriended her 5 years ago when I moved to NC. She and Frank were my elderly neighbors... what a pleasure to have them in my life. Neighbors on each side of me welcomed me with open arms.....they used to say I lived between a Rock and a Hard place ;-) (Frank and Fran's last name is Rock)
I joined their church.....came home from work and had cocktails in the evening....fixed their computer....fixed their remote when everything went digital.....introduced them to my new love Phil.....(whom Fran fell in love with.) She told me that I needed to keep him around...that he was her boyfriend.....she had spunk like no one else I have ever known. They have always greeted me with smiles....food... and cocktails....
She was a poet and a gardener....and oozed Southern hospitality. She had a fiesty, flirty sense of humor and a wild kindred spirit at 80 yrs old. 'How are you doing Fran?'...."Everybody I know"......
"Come unto me and I'll give you a piece"....and she would say this to get a chuckle from a perfect stranger....
They had to move to assisted living a few years ago. Phil and I have taken them out about once a week for dinner....we have laughed at every occasion...and have just loved them beyond belief. It has always been apparent that Frank was with the love of his life. He moved to assisted living for her benefit....
Well 12 days ago Fran died.......she had one of the most beautiful funerals I've ever attended... When laughter filled the church I knew I felt love.... When the priest read her poetry he had to stop and gather himself....he knew her so well. We all know she's up there giving St. Peter fits...... Frank is doing okay...he has his moments. We toast Fran at our dinners with him and we are trying to keep a watchful eye over him.....but we know Fran is doing that too! At 87 he's even taking on some of her traits of being the jester.
I just wanted to write something in her honor. She will be sorely missed! I will always cherish our memories.
Now please say a little prayer for Frank. We all know time will heal....but it's still tough. emoticon
