New Goal

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

So I'm finding myself very close to my weight loss goal. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Back when I set that goal, I couldn't imagine being any thinner than that. But now that I have more or less hit it, I feel I could lose a few more pounds.

So I'm asking myself, "what should my goal be?"

Should I reset my goal from 149 to 145 pounds? (I'm 5'4", but I have a "large" skeletal frame)

Should I keep my goal at 149 and enter maintenance with the goal to gain more muscle and become more toned?

Should I shift my focus to a lifestyle focused on fitness goals instead of weight?

I'm thinking maybe I should work on all 3 goals at once. Shift into maintenance, work on building muscle, and see where my body goes....

Congrats!!!!! When I was at my goal, I thought I could lose a lot more (like 20 lbs), but then couldn't and became very frustrated. I think that it depends how you'll react personally, but looking back now on how I did, I would say that your idea of shifting into maintenance/building muscle/seeing what happens is a great way to approach it! Good luck:)

Have you done measurements? One of my running coaches has been doing some serious strength training over the last year and has lost a lot of fat but has gained serious muscle. She is now 6 pounds heavier than she was before, but her measurements are now quite a bit smaller.

Agreeing with both the previous comments. I personally would focus on fitness and see what happens over the next two weeks or so....than change that up if need be. Congrats on your accomplishments. YOU are doing great. emoticon

I am 5'4" like you and my end goal is 145. I am still 15 pounds away from that goal so it still feels like a long way off! Congratulations on your loss. I agree with Bookaphile though. You are the only person who can make that call. Good luck! emoticon

Only you can decide what's best in your case. I've been transitioning to maintenance for 3 weeks, and I am now 2 pounds lighter than I planned to be. Finding the right balance of calories and exercise to keep the weight stable is a skill I'm working on.

    Good luck whatever you decide!
