On Friday I found out I am prediabetic. I am just not going to stand for this! The last few years I have been losing weight and eating right to prevent diabetes, and guess what! I was doing it all wrong and now I have to do it right. First I was angry. How on earth did I preogress to prediabetes despite giving up all added sugar, simple carbs, exercising and losing weight? That is NOT supposed to happen according to popular health advice. Well, I checked out a book from the library by Diane Kress called The Diabetes Miracle. And it is amazing. I have exactly the problems she describes in the books. All the symptoms of met B and now.... suprise! (it really was to me) I have pre diabetes. So, what am I going to do? I'm going to do the miracle diet. I started today.
Firstly I cooked myself chard, asparagus, 2 eggs and topped it with avacado with breakfast. Yum! I tracked it at Sparkpeople even though she doesn't advocate tracking calories, I just want to do it at first to see exactly what I'm eating at the end of the day. Then I realised chard wasn't even included in her list of greens you can eat but I'm pretty sure it's okay, just ever so slightly higher in carbs than spinach or kale so maybe I should stick to just one cup even though I have a ton of the stuff in my garden.
It is low low carb diet for 8 weeks. And for me, this is a problem. I craved my delicious healthy muesli this morning, how I craved it. And then I went for my usual 3 mile run. Only I didn't complete it. How to get enough energy to run on a low carb diet? She recommends a half a banana right before it. So I ate my half a banana in the car and you know what? I had no energy. It was the worst run I've had for ages. I couldn't even do the last lap of the reservoir or my whole energy sprint I usually do at the end. :( So she says the first 4 days are tough but this is ridiculous. I didn't feel like I had any energy from the banana available to me at all. And I couldn't find anywhere in the book when to eat the banana. Like maybe I should've had it half an hour before my run to let it digest? Or an hour? Must figure this out before next workout. Ugh! Anyway, feeling pretty crap with such low carbs. But I am psyched to do this diet and I'm going to my garden to plant some veggies because I'm going to be eating a lot of them! Loved the asparagus in my eggs this morning a lot.
Oh yeah, starting weight 166, expected weight loss should only be like 5 lbs in 8 weeks which is pretty discouraging but I need to just change my mindset about weighing myself expecting the results to be on the scales since that's not what this diet is all about.
I knew this was going to be a long post!
