SP Teams

Are you on a SparkPeople team that is active and meaningful? If so, how do you stay connected to it? Do you need to check the page every day? Do they give you challenges or activities to do, or is it mainly just chatter? If you do get challenges, how does it work?

I belong to the DC area group, the Northern VA area group, and the gluten-free group. None are active. The most active I've seen the DC group is when I posted about the Friday 5Ks, which I also posted in the NoVA group.

I'm curious about your experiences! What do you like, what don't you like? Do you see a benefit to them? Do share, if you are so inclined!

    I think that what you put into a team is what you get out of it...and sometimes, life gets in the way, and best intentions of being active get tossed right out the window.

    Honestly - when I was ACTIVEly losing my weight, I was on a team, and it was active and fun and10 or so women walked all over England.. we recorded our miles and that was that. I found my Sparkbuddy OAKBORN there. We have been on Maintenance now ever since then...that was back in 2008.

    That team has since become defunct...someone tried to bring it back to life, and I started back again, but life got in the way....again!

    When you are on maintenance...the maintenance team keeps you in touch with others like you...and THAT is a plus in my book - you don't feel as alone in that world.

    I don't find them to be particularly useful to me personally. With the possible exception of introducing me to a few other folks on SP, I find them to be a bit of a time sink with little bang for the buck.

    I try to follow what's going on at some level of my SP friends but even then I am limited as to my time and so sometimes the best I can do is click the "Like" button on their activity or maybe write a sentence or two. Springtime is busy time on the farm - not a lot of time for socializing.

    I was active on the team Challenge + Motivation = Weight Loss for a while. I really enjoyed it. There were monthly challenges that weren't too strenuous, but that kept me with something to work toward. And it helped me branch out and meet other people. It was really encouraging. I think it was kind of dead for a while. The team leader recently has been trying to revive it, but I have been too busy to get involved. One of the many things I'm hoping to pile on after this bloody exam.

    I have a few teams I belong to. Most of it is just chatter. And pretty inactive. The active teams have so many members that I feel it is too big. I would love to find a team that was active and a bit smaller with challenges. If anyone knows of some let me know!

    I belong to a bunch of teams but mostly I Just periodically read blogs of the members or occasional posts. I've definitely seen organized challenges but I haven't really been that involved. Sorry I can't be of more help, I'm a slacker team member! :)
