Well, this week I went to see my doctor and because I've had these strange spots appear on my face under my eye. She's pretty sure it's high cholesterol so I am going to do a blood test tomorrow.
Both my parents have high cholesterol and my dad has heart disease so it's not surprising if it's true.
The good thing about this diagnosis is that it's given me the kick in the pants to start making some changes.
I just got a new high powered blender and I have started incorporating green smoothies in my life. I have been having a green smoothie for breakfast every day this week, and trying to incorporate things that are good for lowering cholesterol, such as flax seeds, oatmeal, almonds, etc.
I have been meatless for a few days this week as well.
It's a fine balance. I live with carnovores and I am trying to model lifestyle but not pass down diet bondage to my kids. I grew up with a mom who cooked one meal for her and one meal for the family. I don't want to have a separate meal for me so I have been making meals that have meat separate.
I made spaghetti and meatballs with a sauce that had many hidden vegetables pureed. I just didn't have meatballs on my portion.
I made baked falafels and froze a bunch and have been pulling them out for meals. We had more chicken this week.
Spring has finally come to Canada. We had an ice storm and hail this week but today the temperature is going to be warm. I have been going for walks again and I am going to start my 5 K training again.
All these changes are working because I have lost weight this week.
I was down to 218 in July and I have ballooned up to 260 from all the stress with my family situation.
Now I think my grieving time is almost over. So I am back on the wagon with a new focus.
I am really enjoying my green smoothie breakfasts. I am finding that my craving for sweets and chips has gone down and I am drinking less coffee. I have energy in the morning.
