On My! Spendthrift Into Shopping Addict!

Sunday, April 14, 2013

After two hours squatting down and scrubbing some serious mud off my scooter, then cleaning up the resulting pile of dirt, and then an hour of vacuuming and then mopping the floor in my apartment so I could park my now clean scooter back in it, I was ready for a rest!! As soon as I tried to lay down, two rookies called about the bridge game I am running, one for sure wanting to play the other needing to check his work schedule for that week. But for the rest of the day, I didn't hear from anyone else!! So I got on the elliptical for an hour of sweating and listening to my digital cable music (can't wait to get that Bose system and play my own choice of music as they repeat the song Patio Lanterns Ad Nauseum and I will be happy if I never hear it again lol)
I played in an online Freecell tournament coming 2nd grr.
Browsing through the Air Miles catalogue, I noticed that fancy Bose Sound Wave System Mom and I had seen the ads for on TV (I watch TV at Mom's because she gets movies) so I immediately ordered it for 4700 Air Miles, considering they want $2500 for it, I thought it was a good investment and I could finally get rid of my big old system with the five surround sound speakers of which the wires are a constant nuisance to vacuum around. Compact is the key when you live in a tiny apartment.
I called Mom to see if she wanted one too and she did, so I ordered it right away. Boy, if I keep looking I might not have enough Air Miles left for Australia!!!
I am not usually a person to spend friviously. I am actually quite the tight wad, which is why I had such a huge Air Miles Credit and why I have decent savings in spite of being on just a disability pension. The only reason I started to spend them is because of the five year expiry date they slapped on them. I was concerned they would go to waste like the Aeroplan miles I never used and got expired :( One thing to my credit is I really hate clutter and will do anything to get rid of stuff to free up space. I am looking to get rid of this massive recliner -it simply does not fit my small frame very well and hurts my back. I would like to downsize to something much more smaller and compact. Maybe this 'condo size' stuff might work or not even a recliner as I never use the lay back feature (I tried and it just pushed me back upright lol)
Trying to convince Mom she wants my big TV and stereo system as it sits up high on the entertainment center my Dad built for me and she wouldn't have to prop herself up so awkwardly to see the TV now at the foot of her bed. The bonus is she would getmy digital cable box as presently she gets basic cable because she didn't get a box when they switched to digital.
No improvement in my elbow (can't figure out how not to use it when I am right handed)
Well, tomorrow is my big team game for the seniors. I expect 35 teams like last time, using both rooms in the club. That is one huge pile of people and having to pass boards back and forth between the teams will keep my hopping (I wear workout clothes for this game :) Then I have to go back in the evening to help out with the student game as the teacher will be away again. Not just once, but twice -do the same thing all over again next week! Two sessions in a day will have me walking like a zombie :P
Have a great week all1 Thanks for stopping by.
Hugs,
Linda

It is great that you have saved your air miles and the Bose system will be awesome. I have Bose in both of our cars. I just love the sound. As for your elbow, I can relate. I am also right handed and when I broke my right shoulder and had surgery....I was at such a loss. I could not get dressed without the use of my right arm. It did improve. I learned to do so much with my left hand/arm. The only thing I could not master was writing with my left hand. Do you have a sling to wear? If you wear that it will certainly remind you not to use the right arm. Best of luck. I truly hope that the elbow heals soon. emoticon

    Hi,

Are you really saving your Airmiles to go to Australia? Cool! I didn't know the Bose was out for that few airmiles. Must go check that out as that would make an ideal birthday present for my husband.

Busy as always I see! emoticon I'm glad you were able to get a Bose. Those things are ultra nice! I hope the elbow gets better soon. As for the purging of clutter...I can completely relate! I have been cleaning out like crazy--nothing is safe in my path! LOL! I can't stand it, and in the midst of remodel, I have to keep myself in check so as not to get rid of everything that doesn't have a place! emoticon Hope all continues to go well, and be sure to get some rest in between all the bridge games! emoticon

I think emotional clutter, physical clutter, and being overweight have a link between them. You're smart to keep your space clear and clean, although there's nothing wrong with having a bit of a shop from time to time if you can afford it. Enjoy!

    Hi Linda,
It sounds like you have found a way to do the most painless shopping of all--at home and for true bargains. That is awesome.
I wish you well at the game--it sounds like it will be physically draining, so please take care of yourself. It is hard to get around so many people who rarely notice that somebody else might need some courtesy or space. I am sure you can do it, with finesse, but I'm sorry that it is part of your day.
Hang in there--congrats on the bargain shopping! You will love your new stereo.
Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

I see you got your Vitamix after all! I hope it works out for you! That is awesome about the air miles! I will be jealous if you get to go to Australia without me!! emoticon
I hate clutter too! Good luck in finding a smaller chair...sounds like you need to get rid of that recliner for sure!
That is tough that your bad elbow is your right one! Hang in there, it will get better. Do you ice it or use hot packs? That may help if you Haven't tried that yet.
