DUH! (a lightbulb moment)

Sunday, April 14, 2013

I've often been frustrated by the SP tracker when Iwould log something and the nutrition content wouldshow different numbers than those on my package of the exact same product did. Finally this morning it dawned on me -- Take a look at, for instance, a piece of string cheese that has traditionally always been 1 oz. My package now says .833 oz. Hence, the nutrition information entered earlier in time is going to have more calories, etc. than the newer packages where the producers are trying to trick us into thinking the prices have stayed the same or gone down, when actually we are just getting less product. And so, for all those times I've cussed at the food tracker for telling me there were 60 calories in my string cheese instead of the 50 the package was telling me, I humbly apologize!!

I have taken to using a scale in cooking just so I know that I'm getting the right amount of ingredients!

I to have wondered about the differance in the total in calories. HoweverI just decided to put use the put a new food in once I see as differance in the calories so I can get 50 calories instead of 60. Sure is frustrating but hey, I'm entitled to put down whay I ate, not get cheated by packaging.

It irritates me when some of my old recipes call for a package of, say cream cheese, or some other ingredient. But the change in size alters the recipe! Or I end up having to buy more and have a partial package left over. Not much to be done about it. Buyer be aware.

The marketing of smaller packages at the same price and the subsequent change in labeling could stub anyone's toe!
