I understand how my ancestors felt

This morning I got up at 8.30 (Sunday = lie-in chez ChicChantal. If you usually get up at 7am, 8.30am is a lie-in, right?) and opened the bedroom window, bracing myself for the icy blast.

It didn't happen. Instead, a scent with all the qualities of good wine curled in and started to explore the dusty corners of the room.

I sort of choked and headed for the bathroom, grabbing random garments on the way. Three minutes later I was dressed* and thirty seconds after that, I'd opened all the windows and doors to let the spring in.

Yes, it's here at last. The forecast says 18C (about 62F) and cloud) but nobody has actually told the weather and at the moment we have sun and the temprature when I got up was already about 12C outside.

On the subject of my ancestors, that breeze through the window took me back to school where I 'did' bits of the Canterbury Tales:

Whan Zephirus eek with his swete breeth . . .
So priketh hem Natúre in hir corages,
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages

Riveting stuff eh? No I haven't a clue either but for a moment you thought I did didn't you? Apparently the gist is that when the spring arrives people emerge from hibernation and get out and about again. I can sympathise, after a winter like this. Creeping out of a thatched hut to weather like we have this morning must have been like rebirth.

Geoff (Chaucer) was very clear that people also get frisky. I haven't got to the frisky stage yet but you never know, so I hope you're not easily shocked.

Meanwhile, I've got housework to finish and gardening to start. The plan was to go for a hike but my foot seems to be suffering from plantar fasciitis and therefore not to be trifled with.

I'm having lunch out in the garden to celebrate spring though. The pic is what I'll be looking at.

*If you're worrying about my personal hygiene, that's very kind of you and I'm going to the gym later and I'll get a shower there.

I may also get frisky.

Spring has finally sprung here as well, and the bluebirds have started building nests and laying eggs (a sure sign)! Take care of the plantar fasciitis, it can be the dickens to recover from if you let it go. I found out the hard way (I just ignored it for several months), and ended up wearing orthotics in my shoes for over a year before it would go away. Now I just make sure that I wear shoes with good arches (at least they now build those into something other than old-lady style "sensible" shoes), and if it begins to flare up I do my stretching exercises, and take a day off walking. Oh, and I've completely given up on heels, but that wasn't much of a sacrifice, since I never much liked wearing them anyway!

BTW, if you get the frisky stage, be sure to blog about it! We'll be waiting with bated breath!

You are so funny! Glad spring has finally arrived for you. For your plantar fasciitis--make sure you do calf stretches. They make all the difference in the world. I also discovered that if I walked excruciatingly slow--2 miles an hour for 10 to 20 minutes everyday with lots of stretching afterwards, my plantar fasciitis got better faster. Sitting around didn't do much for it at all, unless you get a cortisone shot.

Before I started Sparking my plantar faciitis was so bad that I did end up getting the cortisone shot. I got some shoe inserts from the doctor, too. Then I started doing the stretches twice a day and walking slowly.

Frustrating for you not being able to get out and walk - but hope you enjoyed lunch in the garden and your workout at the gym. It stopped raining here - but is really windy. But it's much warmer - and for that I AM grateful! Tip about ice roller sounds good - hope that clears up pronto!

Frisky is very good for you! So enjoy, LOL...
7:00???? On my lie-ins I get up at 7:30... Otherwise it's 6:00... But that is for the gym, and if I don't do it then, I don't do it, so it is so worth getting up for.

    Enjoy the day!

I had very good results with treating plantar fasciitis with a night splint.

And HURRAH (yes, that's a shout) for spring. Wish it would come here but we at least our temps are warmer, 30F/-1C and expected to rise to 46/8 today. However, we still have snow on the ground and the wind is howling (29mph/47km h).

I remember having to memorize parts of old Geoff as well. Enjoy your beautiful weather. We have been taking our meals on the porch of late. Unfortunately, the gnats have also been celebrating spring here so not lingering too late in the evening outside but while we are able to be out it is glorious!

How delightful! I'm happy for that Spring has sprung, and I'm sure your kitties are pleased to have the windows open. emoticon

As for your hygiene - I didn't give it a thought until you mentioned it. Several mornings a week I get up and put my exercise clothes on before reading my Bible and eating breakfast. Then I get to the exercise portion of things. emoticon

I hope you're able to get on top of (no pun intended) the foot problem. I understand it's quite painful, and the frozen bottle of water thing sounds refreshing. Do you avoid meds? If not, would an anti-inflammatory help any? Regardless of that, I do hope you're soon able to get about without pain.

    Have a super Sunday!

Like BRAVELUTE, I immediately thought of my personal favorite too - Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote...and I too could only get through four lines. Do keep these posts coming; they're such fun to read.

We have had a cold rainy spring here in Illinois. Can't wait until it comes here. Enjoy.

WHAN that Aprille with his shoures soote 1
The droghte 2 of Marche hath perced to the roote,
And bathed every veyne in swich 3 licour,
Of which vertu engendred is the flour

I've remembered the 1st 4 lines all these years, but had forgotten all but the gist of the rest. Thanks for my memory this morning! Especially since summer forces me to get up and out earlier and earlier.

Welcome Spring! We actually had summer like temps this week but now back to normal spring weather---which I prefer over 86 in April. Enjoy your lunch outside.
One thing for the foot---freeze a plastic bottle of water ---put it on the floor---roll it with the bottom of that foot---it is great for that problem--do this several times a day. It is like a frozen massage and eases the inflamation there.
