Adventure Double Peak- DONE.

Sunday, April 14, 2013

I don't know if you can see that tiny tree up there...

But I hiked up to it with Heather & her husband!

NEWSGIRL2177's great blog recap:

We saw ferns!
We saw rocks!
We saw her husband complete the amazing feat of RUNNING up part of the hilly hike!

And we got to the top... and saw the ocean waves 11 miles away!!!
This hike was on our Adventure list 2012, and we rolled it over to our shortened 2013 list. It was nice to finally see what we had wondered about for so long.

It makes me think about all of the things that I'm afraid to do, because it might be uncomfortable... because it might be hard, or scary, or just plain unfamiliar. The hike was a big challenge. I'm not as in shape as I have been the past 4 years. I felt it. But it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. And I survived.

**Plus, it was a whole lot easier with a positive mindset.
**It was easier by focusing on pretty things along the way. Who knew that the high coastal desert environment would support the kind of ferns and lichen I've only seen in Primordial Forest depictions? (Okay, well I'm a little deprived of any hiking in a forest - maybe that's commonplace in a regular forest.)
**It was easier by focusing on one part at a time, instead of pondering the entirety.
**It was easier by slowing down to take some breaths - I limited myself to two- or three-breath pauses.
**It was easier doing it with friends I love.
**It was easier going at our own pace, instead of with a hiking group online.

These things make everything easier - not just hiking. Surely.

Not sure if you can see the beauty of the light streaming through the clouds - a rare phenomenon here in San Diego.

Oops, no, let's go the less steep route. Yodeling or something.. we need a closeup of that

Wow!! What a great adventure. You were practising mindfulness while on your hike. How very Buddhist-like of you.

The photos are fabulous!
Last May JF and I bought a camper and we are currently researching places nearby to visit. Our first trip will likely be to Mount Hereford south of Montreal. I'm so looking forward to some mountain hiking!

Awesome, nothing quite like using your body to go see wondrous sights, and end up stronger than when you began to plan it.

That is so cool!! The trip looks lovely... and you look amazing too. If I saw that tree on top of that mountain, I'd want to hike up to it too! Loved your observations on what made it easier... so true... so so true...
