I have thought of about 2.3 zillion things I wanted to blog about this week and just kept feeling like I didn't have enough time, so those great things slipped past since I didn't take any notes... sigh.
Most of the week was getting back from vacation, into the swing of work, and finishing up training for the Jay Dix 5K www.challengetocure.com
here in Columbia. I was doing well with my 10K training before vacation and maintained while gone. So I kept up the training this week by running the virtual 5K route on my treadmill twice, and then doing an easy walk/run for almost 4 miles.
My goals going into today's race were to run the whole thing and beat my previous time of 31:08. Hubby and I got to the starting area about 30 minutes before the start of the race and did some warming up, which was needed since it was 42 at race time with bright sunshine. It actually wasn't bad... especially in the sun. I am really glad that I chose to wear full leggings and a long-sleeved shirt with shorts and a short-sleeved race shirt over that. I really hate wearing too much and having to strip off. So I was dressed just right.
I am very happy with my results. I didn't manage to run the entire race, but I did beat my previous time, which was also a personal best and sub-30. There were only 3 people in my age group, and I was last of the 3, but I was 60th of 182 overall, and 22nd of 82 women running. I finished in 29:48, with a pace of 9:37.
So I achieved one goal, which was beating my previous race time. I didn't achieve running the entire race, but I did achieve my sub 30 minute 5K and a personal best. My rewards are a new running outfit and a buff or pair of shoes.
I believe very strongly that the training that I have been doing is paying off. So my goals for the rest of the year are to run an entire 5K and to complete a 10K by year's end.
