Need Knee Advice

Saturday, April 13, 2013

Has anyone who has had knee replacement surgery willing to share her/his experience?

My orthopedic doctor is recommending knee replacement surgery because I have no cartilage in either knee. I saw him 3 years ago, and I had some cartilage then. But the last 3 years have seen the cartilage completely disappear.

I feel as if I am in a vicious cycle. I try to lose weight so my knees will hurt less, but the exercise makes my knees hurt worse than ever. The doctor thinks that with artificial joints, I'll be able to exercise without excruciating pain.

I have several friends who have had the surgery. None of them have lost significant weight afterwards.

The doctor said that most people wish they had gotten artificial joints sooner. Is that your experience?
