We had to wait for the snowy-icy to arrive. It's been coming down all day. First there were inch long icicles hanging along all the roofs, then the trees and bushes began to accumulate crystally white. Birds (sparrows, chickadees, juncos and doves) are out there, despite the freezy-sleety stuff, feeding away.
You can see that the tulips are all robed in sparkles, too. But the snow pile between the cottage and the arbor is within a reasonable depth for early April. The vegetable garden beds were almost free of snow, but... I hope to put some lettuces and perhaps the kale and brussel sprout starts into that cold frame that is still covered over.
Yesterday we took care of the flooded cellar twice and then had to pump it out again this morning. It hasn't filled again because of the freezing temps. However, as soon as it warms up, the water will seep in once more. Reminds me of digging holes by the seashore and water coming up from underneath in each one. One friend suggested that we stock the cellar with fish!
Made the veggie chili today and the aroma and taste are nudging us to come sit down and have a bowl. I used our homemade tomato sauce; a can of organic tomato paste; baked potatoes, sweet potatoes and beets cut up in cubes; beet greens; grated carrots, onions, garlic and bell peppers; chili powder, bombay seasoning and a sprinkling of salt. Topping it with Greek yogurt ought to do the trick!
