Take away

Thursday, April 11, 2013

Got up this am and went to the gym, but by the time I got there decided that I wanted to go out for breakfast and have a boiled egg and English Muffin. I called Molly to see if she wanted to join me after my workout. We headed off to Denny's and I was told that my boiled egg would take about 20 minutes, so I went with the Value Slam thinking that I was getting scrambled eggs, hash browns, a muffin and bacon. WRONG! It is eggs, bacon and PANCAKES. So I ate 1 pancake with sugar-free syrup, 1-1/2 slice bacon and my eggs emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon . About 500 calories, so not TOO bad.

TAKE AWAY- I left a whole pancake and over 1/2 strip of bacon, because it just wasn't worth the calories.

After breakfast, I went to the office and signed in and checked my email, then headed off for the coast. It seemed like a LONGGGGGGGG drive today! I stopped in Reedsport at a thrift store because, well, because! I bought 2 sweaters (one a Liz Claiborn), a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and a pair or Nordstrom shoes which had never been worn. I passed on a darling Liz skirt because it was too big (in a size 14!). I paid a total of $21.

TAKE AWAY- It is easier to find clothes in thrift stores now and easier yet to find high end ones. Clothes that I used to think of as ridiculously small, now look large to me.

Off to my meeting, in Bandon. I didn't realize that the route I took today added an hour onto the trip! I had planned on a walk on the docks before the meeting. Oops! I barely got there in time!

It was a lunch meeting and they were having a local caterer bring in sandwiches. I should have brought my own. I managed to have 1/2 turkey sandwich, but removed the top slice of bread so had only 1/2 slice of bread. They had a nasty-looking pink (!!) pasta salad and skewers with 1 olive, 1/2 small pickle and 1 cherry tomato to accompany the sandwich. Then some kind of cranberry cheesecake dessert bar. Bandon is the cranberry capitol of the US and Ocean Spray is located here.

TAKE AWAY- Always, always, always carry my own lunch!

After the meeting Rich called to ask me to pick up lettuce for tacos tonight. I stopped at the grocery store in Bandon because they have Wisconsin cheese curds (wayyyyyyyy better than the ones you get that are made in Oregon) and I wanted to buy some for Molly. I also wanted some carrots to snack on after that lovely lunch *insert eyeroll here*. GULP! They had custard filled donuts emoticon so I got one and carried it through the store with me, anticipating every delicious drop of custard and the chocolate frosting- then I returned it to the bakery. Just couldn't waste the calories after eating breakfast out. They will have them when I go back.... it's not like I can never have one. I just chose not to have one today.

TAKE AWAY- I can and will walk away from food temptations when they do not fit into my eating plan. It does not mean I can never have them just because I choose not to eat them today.

It was a longish drive home, due to the slowest drivers on earth being on the road today. On one stretch that usually takes me about 20 minutes to drive took 45 today because the driver ahead of me wouldn't go over 35mph. I can only assume s/he was from the flat desserts of Eastern Oregon, because s/he certainly did not know how to drive on the twisty road!

When I arrived home, I had a package in the mail. I love Listia, which is a place to list your gently used items in barter for others. You 'auction' your item for points which you then use to get 'new' stuff. It is great when losing weight! Needless to say, my size 24 & 26 camos no longer fit so I 'bought' some new ones on Listia. They are skinny jeans and I was looking forward to being able to fit into them for fall. When I opened though, you know I had to try them on and see how far until I could wear them. Guess what! They fit! emoticon emoticon

TAKE AWAY- Good things come to those who commit and want it badly enough!

So my day was wonderful! Looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings.

Really, I don't ever make them, but isn't a boiled egg supposed to take like 12 minutes to make???? Lots of NSV in your day. Awesome!

How in the world can a boiled egg take 20 minutes? lol Good job making a healthy choice! That could have been a disaster! But you did it! Good for you! Also, I live in MN, so Wisconsin Cheese curds are very nearby! They are super yummy! Nice work with all of the take-aways from your day! :)

Sounds like you had a satisfying day. I don't eat may sweet things but I also like custard filled donuts. I used to treat myself to one every 2 weeks when I would go grocery shopping. Now I avoid the bakery department. I'd never heard of Listia, just joined, thanks emoticon

Sounds like you made some solid choices throughout your day! I would agree on the cheese curds, but even better are the ones we make right here in our house only because they are fresh out of the cooker!

Glad you found some nice clothes for cheap! I long for the day that I can buy off the smaller size racks.....

Good job on the breakfast and lunch. It's so hard when you're not in control of your food. I love thrift stores too. I just can't afford to shop in the regular stores anymore, so I check out the thrift stores on a regular basis and buy only things that I love. I have a great wardrobe at this point that I would never be able to afford other wise. It only makes sense when you're losing weight. emoticon
