A cold, wet walk

Thursday, April 11, 2013

I was on my way to the gym and walked by my favorite restaurant... They had a sign out that they were serving carrot ginger soup today and my feet just took me inside. They don't always have this soup on the menu, but it is super delicious (and low fat). So, my workout got hijacked by a big bowl of soup. Oh well. After eating I did go for a brisk walk on a new route that I have been meaning to try. Not a lot of sidewalks out that way, but it would add about 4 miles to my loop around the village. If I walk the whole loop it would be about 16 miles. The next nice day I am going to walk the entire loop. It was just too cold and wet for me to try it today. It was all of 36 degrees today and spitting rain. Not my preferred conditions for a long walk. When I got home I stopped in the basement of my apartment building and pedaled over 9 miles. Add in three dog walks and my mileage total ends about the same as if I had gone to the gym. My hands got pretty chilled out walking. For some reason my fingers get cold fast, and start to hurt. I have arthritis in my feet, maybe I have a touch in my hands as well. A question for my next Dr appointment.

The dog seems to be doing fine with the shorter walks the past couple days, but I will take him out for a good long walk on our next nice day. He does best with about 10 miles of walking each day. It keeps him calm and well behaved, and keeps me moving. Adopting my Cooper dog was a stroke of genius on my part. LOL!!

Wow! 16 miles! I've never thought about walking that far at one time. But then I get bored easily and switch up activities often.

sounds like spring is making a slow appearance just about everywhere. I carry gloves in my pockets year round,, you just never know. Awesome mileage today- hope the skies clear enough and temps warm so you can enjoy a long walk this weekend

If you dont ever treat yourself, eventually your body hijacks you and forces you to do bad things. Enjoy the soup.

Awesome steps!! Can't miss carrot ginger soup, what a nice perk on such a miserable day! Dogs are the best fitness buddies, and the more you exercise them the better behaved they will be! Weather is horrible here too, chance of freezing rain tonight and snow on the weekend :(. We had high winds which packed down and melted the top of the snow here, so our poor pooch has been getting ouchies walking on the sharp crusted snow. We hit record low temps, which is just a continuation of our very long winter which started out Oct 15 with a big snow fall. Just doesn't seem to want to let us go.
Have a Fantastic Friday!

I'm sure your dog loves all this walking. I can't wait until spring is here to stay.

I hate having cold hands outside... seems that it distracts me from the task at hand lol. I got some running gloves and solved that!

I love soup on cold days. My feet wouldn't have passed that up either.

Soup sounds good. It snowed here most of the day.

My hands are the first to get cold too. I OFTEN wish I had a dog so I would feel safer walking by myself on our country roads, but it just isn't in the cards with all the traveling we do. :(

I'm glad the dog loves the walking!!

How long will it take to cover 16 miles?

Do you wear gloves or mittens out in the cold? If not, it might be time to start. Do they make solar powered heated mittens? You're active enough. You should be able to power the batteries with your own energy!!
