I don't talk about my 12 step recovery stuff a lot here because Sparkpeople's Nutrition FAQs discourage blaming your troubles on addiction to food or eating. And I'm coming up on my 12th anniversary in recovery.
The argument goes "How can you undertake any change in your life from a position of powerlessness?" I was just thinking about it, and it's only powerlessness over the addiction, whatever it happens to be.
The other side of letting go control over what I cannot control is Courage to Change the Things I Can. I used to waste at least half my energy fighting shadows and mountains. Let's say I claim that energy and use it toward living for today. That is what recovery encompasses.
Recovery means not procrastinating. Recovery means not worrying. Recovery means so much more than powerlessness over my addiction.
