Getting Motivated

I am on fire! I have found a goal to focus in on, which is something that I have been missing for quite awhile. At first, I thought I wanted to do one of those exercise programs that requires a two or three month commitment (which I still do and am saving up to get the Peak System) because it offered me an end goal that I could aim for. I always need some kind of goal. It definitely helps me push harder and learn as much as I can about getting results.

It was on one of my group jogs that I started talking about the races I wanted to do, and I lamented about the "half-marathon that never was" that I had to drop because the price of the race jumped up to $250. More than a little outside my price range. Some of my fellow joggers went off about what they had run in and how exciting it was, then pointed out that there were other races, especially more local races. I started to wonder why I had not looked for any other races. How had I gotten so easily deterred?

At work the next day, I got to talking to one of prepress guys, and he gave me the name of a local half-marathon set to take place at the end of September. I had never heard of it, but I went online and learned as much as I could. This was the race for me! Just like that, I suddenly had a real, tangible goal. I cannot even explain how thrilled that makes me! It will be my first half-marathon, and while at the moment my longest run is only 6 miles, I have time to really focus on training. I am trying to work out my new fitness schedule since I have never focused so singly on jogging before, especially endurance, but it seems there are plenty of resources. I cannot wait, although that does mean I need to invest in some new shoes ASAP. =P I'll try to stop being cheap.

Thank God for giving me motivation and pushing me in the right direction. It was something that I really needed. Now I can use the Food Tracker to help me make sure my body is getting everything that I need as well. Lots of tools at my disposal, and I want to use them well! =D

  That is great that you have a new goal! That is really important, especially with you being in maintenance. I know you can do it!!! You are already half way there and have 5 months to go! Thank you for the blog comment. I wish I had read it before I worked out. LoL Love you!!!

    I'm glad you found something that was feasible for you to do. It's awful that the cost of something like a race can be so off-putting. Good luck with the training!
