Trying to recover from over-exerting myself working in the yard for 30 minutes in 85 degree heat ! I SHOULD have checked the temp before going out. I did, however, have enough sense to drink a glass of water first. Cut seedlings, pulled up vines. I was beginning to feel weak, light-headed and hot when I came in. (I also didn’t take a watch with me. Used to take my cell phone, BUT…………... See a previous post if you don’t know about THAT.)

Well, I messed myself up this afternoon by taking a nap INSTEAD of being good and going to the park to walk with Jack. It was 5:30 and I needed to get in daily exercise. I thought why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone by working in the yard, enjoy the wonderful weather and sunshine AND getting exercise at the same time.

Besides being SORE tomorrow, I will probably suffer with my pollen allergy. I get daily Pollen and Mold Alerts from the National Allergy Bureau. Lately Knoxville has had High Concentration of tree pollen. Our light gray car is a sickly mix of green/yellow pollen.
But without pollen, no flowers/trees.

Anyhow, I am in NO WAY a gardener. But I do like to putter around sometimes outside. Just the basic stuff. Actually, I would rather do almost ANYTHING than HOUSEWORK!

Hopefully, in the “modern” age, household chores are no longer like when I was a kid. I had/have 2 gripes about it. First, my brothers (1 older, 1 younger) got/had to work helping Dad mow/rake/trim/etc. They at least got to be outside. I, however, had to be STUCK INSIDE with Mom doing BORING cleaning. I remember saying several times that we should SWAP out once in a while. Me work outside and one of them do housework. OH NO! NEVER! What would the neighbors think? Boys helped their dads and girls helped their moms!

PLUS, yard work was/is only, what, 7 months mowing once a week. Raking 4 times in the fall ? Housework, on the other hand, is never-ending! Daily dishwashing, sweeping and laundry (for a family of 5). Weekly dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, bathroom scrubbing and changing sheets. And let’s not forget about washing windows. And blinds! Oh how I HATED those old, metal blinds! They were huge. And the slats were side and sharp. They always sliced our fingers and hands. We would take them down and soak them in the bathtub before washing them.

By the way…….

GUESS WHAT TODAY IS !??!!

Today is the 100th day of the year !
If you/we didn’t re-evaluaate our progress so far this year, now is a good time.

In closing, I got this idea in another email

Someone shared their personal motivational tricks for reaching their health goals. One sticks out as being the most original (I literally laughed out loud when I read it on my screen.) This sweet woman said she keeps her favorite pair of skinny jeans — currently several sizes too small — on a shelf in her refrigerator. Every time she pops open the fridge door looking for a snack, her jeans are there staring her in the face, reminding her to be thoughtful and stick with her plan.

It is unbelievable how high out temps got here as well as today. And yes everything is coated with pollen! Be careful working out in that heat!

Loved the skinny jeans story. And we don't look at negative pollen counts before they happen unless we know a miracle prevention LOL (So don't look at the car, okay?)

As far as going outside and the heat, I found a weird thing that helped me in NM desert when it was hot and I'd walked too far in the heat. Instead of water (which usually makes me feel bloated and almost sick when overheated, I tried some Clausen kosher dill pickle juice. Don't ask me why, but it left me feeling refreshed and I didn't need as much as I would have water (Some recommend lemon water). Perhaps it has something to do with electrolytic balance.
