I finally lost another pound, hooray for me, and hooray for Sparkpeople encouragement! All of you out there I know encourage not only me but a lot of other people too; and for that you have my hearty thanks!
Although I lost a pound, it seemed like it took quite a while. After reading a Sparkpeople article on the proper amount of exercise, I think that may be what it is. That, and since I am an elder at this point (68,although I m a healthy 68, no meds or physical problems), perhaps that is an additional reason why my weight isn't dropping so fast; I should check into that. Also, I am eating calories probably mostly at the high end of my calorie range, so maybe keeping that closer to the lower amount recommended would also increase weight reduction faster, while still staying in the safe range.
The article that I read said that exercising 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week is good for maintenance, but that to lose weight I should be exercising 50 minutes a day 5 days a week.
I am going to try to work up to that. In addition, I know I will be adding gardening minutes soon, and that does burn calories. There's lots of digging, hoeing, weeding, watering, fertilizing, trimming, harvesting, etc coming my way soon, so that will be an additional boost. It's all good, and for lots of good reasons. Plus, I do like task-based exercise - exercise based on tasks I really need and want to accomplish. We have some plants that need dividing and some new orchard trees to plant, so there will be lots of digging, and I have found some wildflower plants I want to stake out so I can keep a few of their seeds to plant in other places. There's also the vegetable garden, grapes to be pruned and trellised, ditto for boysenberries and raspberries. the blueberries are in fine shape, but need to have soil amendments. Hmmmmm . . . there are lots of things to do and grow, and plenty of good Sparkpeople eating - so I'll be checking out recipes as soon as my rhubarb is ready!
