Hey Yall....

I have not blogged in a long time!! So here I go....

I went to the doc about my hypogylcemia. He did tests and my glucose was fine but my body was overproducing insulin. My body is overproducing insulin because I am overweight!! He prescribed me a medicine called acarbose which is really helping with keeping my sugar stabalized! Yaaaaa

It has been 10 WEEKS...NO SODA!!! I had a strong craving watching tv last week, but I knew I could not have it! My health is what is most important right now.

I hope you continue to feel better. I've had a few bouts with hypoglycimia when I was pregnant and I experience low sugars every now and then. So it's an awful feeling I'm sure. Hope you continue to feel better each day and great job on cutting out the sodas.

    Congrats on the NO SODA!

Dallas is a nice city, I can't complain...except it should be warm outside right now and it's 41 degrees!

    emoticon Good afternoon, sweet Sunshine!!

I'm so glad you found out the root of your hypoglycemia and am delighted to hear the acarbose can help. You were SO WISE (*and* strong! emoticon ) to give up the soda 10 weeks ago - CONGRATULATIONS!!! That was a major, major important step in improving your health.

Most of all, I hope it'll help you feel a whole lot better. Here's what I found in Wikipedia about it. Evidently, it's a starch blocker, and "If a patient using acarbose suffers from a bout of hypoglycemia, the patient must eat something containing monosaccharides, such as fruit juice or glucose tablets. Since acarbose will prevent the digestion of complex carbohydrates, starchy foods will not effectively reverse a hypoglycemic episode in a patient taking acarbose." So if your doctor didn't mention those things, you might want to talk to him or her about them, just to be on the safe side.

But most of all, good for you for checking this out and giving up soda - emoticon Hugs, Susan emoticon

Good for you! Stay strong on the soda! That will not help with your insulin issues one bit. Since I reduced the amount of TV I watch, when I do watch now I am ASTOUNDED by the sheer quantity and persuasiveness of ads advertising unhealthy food and drink. Don't be swayed!
