Pineapple Core

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

I have never been a fruit fan, but have learned to enjoy the health benefits thanks to Chris Downie and his book "The Spark". After reading The Spark I changed the way I ate completely starting with adding fruit to my diet.

Pineapple:
Pineapple contains vitamin C and B1, minerals such as manganese and enzymatic proteins. Bromelaine is proteolytic enzyme found in the stem and core of the pineapple responsible for increased digestion, improved immunity, anti-inflammatory and antithrombotic activity. Can I get a woot woot?

Yes I will take all the help I can get if it means I won't have to take medication to be healthy. So pineapple in my smoothie or chicken will do just fine.

At just 40 calories a slice it is composed of fiber and water, both of which inhibit weight gain and are essential for weight loss.

I was about to throw the core in the compost when I read a number of great ideas for it. One of the Spark secrets was to put it inside a chicken when you cook it-clever!

You can also cut and freeze it then use it as an ice cube in your water or fruit beverages. I now I see the pineapple core in a different way!

What is your pineapple core secret?

I'm not a huge fan of pineapple but generally when I eat some I think, "not bad". I'm more of a berries and stone fruit girl! Hope you have a great week!

I wish my MS pain would get better with all the great things I have been eating, guess I just have to resort to prescription medicine, bummer!

I hope you are having a great Sunday!

I prefer canned pineapple, because the acidity of raw/fresh pineapple gives me a rash around my mouth.

Where I live pineapple fresh is a luxury so I tend to have mine in cans. In Sparks one of the mothers always manages to find a pineapple fresh when it's "bring a snack to Sparks" day. The kids are go crazy for it, it really is most delicious. For me, it's better than chocolate. :)

I usually toss the core - but I love pineapple salsa with grilled chicken or fish - wonderful stuff!

(I'm great at getting fruit into my day, but not so good about the vegs.)

Oh, I didn't know that about the core of the pineapple, and what a great idea for it! I don't enjoy drinking water too much and maybe this is one way to make it more fun. Thanks! emoticon Chelsea emoticon
