I can't tell if we had hail damage to car, as It is covered with gloppy mounds of ice. I did have some excitement here about 30- 45 minutes go when I was upstairs in my bathroom and suddenly heard this whamming concussion type sound, like the house does when my son slams the front door shut...

My husband had already left to take our son to school. I had watched them leave from the front door, waved goodbye to my son. Then I had gone upstairs to the bathroom, when I first heard a muffled banging noise outside to the south, I thought. Kept on reading while still in the loo, when I heard the louder noise, feeling the type of compression like my son slamming door shut. So I got done in the loo, washed my hands, picked up phone and called my husband to ask if he was back at the house? (He's been known to come back to pick up things he forgot, like his badge or his work computer etc.). He said he was at work, and was anyone else in the house with me? I was walking downstairs talking to him, but front door was closed and locked and no one in front yard. Kept talking to him, looked out patio door while describing to him what sounds were like. (I wasn't yet concerned enough to call the police.)

Pulled curtain open and there it was! Two of the lower limbs of Bradford Pear tree (north side of yard) had cracked off and landed on the ground! This is the same tree that crashed across the fence into the neighbors yard during the Great Ice Storm in Jan 2005. Fortunately this time, the limbs landed more to the south west of tree, into the main part of our yard, no damage to neighbor's fence & property like it had done to the widowed lady who lived there before she sold to the present owners.

Whew! No one in the house but me and our livestock (cat, dog)... We'll deal with the tree later when spring finally warms up, maybe before summer...
