Orthodontist- So what do I eat?! and Sleep issues!!!

Ok, so I was doing really well with preparing salads and other healthy options ahead of time. The orthodontist fussed at me today because, apparently, I am eating things that are too hard and had bent my wire. Of course, a bent wire cannot do its job, so this is a problem. Frustrated because I really don't like my veggies cooked to mush! Ended up eating lots of bananas and fruit today instead of the veggies I really wanted! Trying to figure out what to eat for lunches! Love my salads and fresh veggies and do not want to give those up!

Obviously, I am struggling to get in bed by 9:30 on school nights. There is so much going on and things I have to do for my girls that have prevented me from making that goal yet. 32 more days of school, through which we will see prom for ds and dd, my graduation, my son's graduation, a complete job change for me, packing up an entire classroom and moving to another school, and all the regular stuff! Ready for summer!!

    Thanks for all the ideas! I make a lot of veggie-based soups as well. However, it has been in the 80s this week (after SNOW last Thursday!), so I've really wanted salads and cold foods. Raw broccoli is one of my favorites. I like the idea of shredding them, too. I did that when I first got my braces on because it was difficult to chew, but had forgotten!

    Guess its steamed, shredded, soups and smoothies for a while!

    My son has braces also, and can no longer eat the hard or crunchy veggies for the same reasons. I have found that with the harder ones, I just shred them instead of "chunking" them. He still gets the veggies in, with all the nutrients and fiber, but the shredding makes them so much easier on the wires. Things that don't shred well, I just dice them finer. He hasn't broken a bracket or bent a wire since. Good luck!!!

    Can you do blended salads? They would be easier on the teeth for sure. I can't tell you how great they are, I have not tried one. Guess I will try this summer. But it might help you, I do mean blended raw veggies. P.S. I have been making crockpots of verry veggie soups every weekend, and as I am not bothered by repetation, I have the same soup every day for lunch, along with orange and a Greek yogurt. I come in at about 500 calories, but lunch is my largest meal of the day. I understand the sleep thing too. Last day for kiddies is May 22.

    Wow, I remember eating veggies and not breaking wires. I guess just cutting it up smaller and steaming them a bit more.
