The Hubs and I spent last weekend at a lodge near 49 Degrees North ski area near Chewelah, WA, with one of his sisters. I love 49 North - lots of terrain, laid back atmosphere, rarely a wait to get on a chair lift. They don't charge for lift tickets the last week of the season. Usually, the skiing is still pretty good. The slopes face north, so the spring sunshine doesn't melt them.
This year, the rain melted them. It was the worst end-of-the-season week I've seen. Our host said it was the worst she's seen in 15 years. The snow was really wet & heavy (not something we're used to in the Selkirk Mountains!) On one particularly bad run, I found myself fearing I was going to blow out my knee and by doing so ruin my cycling season. No injuries, though. We quit while we were ahead.
On the way home, we stopped at a store in Spokane that sells Costco returns & overstocks. We found a discontinued Teeter HangUps inversion table at a really good price. I used it few times yesterday, and I'm really looking forward to using it a lot! My back was so stiff when I first got out of bed this morning that I could barely walk. I went for a leisurely walk this morning, then hung for a bit. Although there is still some pain in my back, I have complete range of motion. (I'm using at about a little less than a 60 degree angle. I plan to work up to full inversion over the next several weeks. My back feels better just thinking about it!)
No ride home tonight (I have to pick up our CSA box - first asparagus of the season!). Tomorrow should have me back on track with the bike. I still don't feel ready to run again. Not sure why, but I figure it's best to listen to my body. If I'm getting exercise on the bike and by walking, the running can wait.
