The Secret That Isn't

Tuesday, April 09, 2013

I searched for years for the secret to weight loss. I wasn't to find it, because there isn't one.

Sparkpeople has a wealth of information about how to make our fitness plan work for us. We must have a calorie deficit to lose, and we can do that through consuming less calories, exercise, or both. I have become quite the advocate of increased exercise, because I DO like to eat! emoticon

I believe a moderate approach is best for me if I want to accomplish my bigger goal of being as fit as I can be for my age. I cannot extremely limit my calorie intake, or I will crave more food. When I tried different "diets" that limited any one food group, I would only crave that food group and that made it worse. If I want something, I practice the "have a bit" approach or "I can have some tomorrow" approach if I have already reached my limits for the present day.

When I began Sparkpeople, I could barely walk to the end of the street, but over time, I have learned that walking is a very good practice for me, both in a physical and a mental sense. I have to MAKE myself take a break once in a while - because ultimately I need moderation in that as well.

Moderation, in both nutrition and fitness, is what works for me...that's my secret that isn't a secret.

Good blog, Weight loss is so much less important to me now.
I am trying to stay as healthy as I can since struggling with the weight loss mentally stresses me out. I have lost little weight but I can walk and I have even attempted to run but I just like walking fast. Well done i feel like we are on the same page but you are slimmer than I am (((HUGS))) Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

COMPUCATHY 4/9/2013 9:56PM are so right. I used to search for books that would give me the answer. Now, I know that is pointless. I have the answer. I just need to keep putting it in to practice and work on the emotions and triggers that throw me off-track. So glad you are here and have found "the secret that isn't a secret!" Keep up the good work! Thanks for the encouragement! Spark on! emoticon emoticon
