Weird title, right? How can I be doing both? Believe it or not, I found a way. And I'll explain that in a moment. But first, the background.
I am grateful to SparkPeople for helping me change my life. Without the site, I doubt I would have learned how to take small steps towards my big goals. That kind of foundation is so important, and I believe SparkPeople does it as well as any other site out there.
That said, I am no longer that person. Five marathons, seventeen half marathons, six relays and countless other events later, I know what it takes to dream big, work hard, and find success. I can honestly describe myself as an athlete.
And as an athlete, my needs have evolved. I don't need as many articles on health and nutrition, daily blogs with simple tips, or team challenges. Instead, I need an easy to use, fully integrated exercise and food tracking system. I need to be able to quickly add food items by scanning their barcodes. And I need to see my available calorie intake for each day, increased by whatever calories I burn during my workouts.
What I need is a more robust and functional fitness app. And I found one. Well, two, actually. They do just what I need them to do right now. They are not right for everyone, and that's okay. They are what *I* need. (I am going to blog about later today in more detail at Runner12.com, if you are interested in my review.)
That's the moving on part. And the staying here? Well, as many of you already know, I was fortunate enough to be part of a weight-loss documentary called, "From Fat To Finish Line." fromfattofinishline.com/
It's the story of a dozen strangers who each lost weight through running and healthy eating. The film will be released late this year, and we are excited to share our stories with anyone that will listen... and maybe, we just might motivate others to start their own journeys.
We have already created a Fat To Finish team here at SparkPeople ( www.sparkpeople.com/mysp
) , and we will be adding new forums and content over the next few months. You are invited to join now, just remember that there is a lot more great stuff still to come.
And since I am changing my focus here at SP, I have changed my name, too. Instead of SanDiegoJohn, I am now Runner12Com. It's fitting, since I am Runner 12 in the movie and will be actively participating in the Spark Team that way.
So, I'm moving on personally to a new fitness tracking application, and I am staying here with my new name to help build an amazing Fat To Finish team. Sounds like a Win/Win to me!
And speaking of Win/Win, I managed to get in a quick run and a bike ride this morning at the gym before work. Go, me!
