In the end, I decided to go with Kris Gethin's Hardcore 12-Week Trainer instead of Lee Labrada's (as I had mentioned in yesterday's blog). Kris seems to be a little more of my style and I'm not a beginner when it comes to weight lifting so this should be right up my alley. Labarada's seemed to be geared more towards beginners.
I did Day 1 yesterday, which was legs. It was crazy intense because each set is designed so that you go to failure. I'm finding it difficult to go up and down stairs today! :) It's a good feeling. I always push myself in the gym but going to failure on each set is a whole new ball game since I usually go to failure on my last set only.
This evening, I'll be doing chest and triceps. He recommends doing cardio twice daily (morning and after doing weights). I'll be going for walks either in the morning (depending on how much sleep I get) or during my lunch break at work; then again after my weight lifting session at the gym. In this program, I train for 2-3 days in a row, then take a rest day (cardio only). This works out perfect for me to go to the aquatic centre for some swimming.
As I mentioned yesterday, I'm sticking with my own nutrition plan and I'm not going to be taking any of the recommended supplements (I'm not looking to gain a ton of muscle and get super ripped). I normally take a multivitamin, omega-3s and calcium. I won't take any additional supplements on this plan.
What's really awesome about this free program is that every day (for 84 days), Kris has a video for you to watch. It's like a daily vlog where he does the workout and shows you how to do it. He even takes you to the grocery store on rest days and is always motivating you. You also get to see his transformation from bulked up to ripped in 12 weeks. It's amazing! I've done the LiveFit Trainer on bodybuilding.com and it got me strong enough to have the courage to join a gym so I am all for those training programs. Did I mention they're free? You can't beat that.
Ohhhhh and I took some progress pictures last night. My brother offered to help take them for me so I wore a sports bra and some gym shorts (front, side and back). I can't wait to take some more in 12 weeks to see the difference! There's a huge difference between my (very bad quality) before pics from last year and the ones I took last night. My whole shape has changed, especially around my mid-section. That's big motivation to keep going. I'll post the "before" pics on my page within the week.
Have a good day!
