I went to a new doctor yesterday, because when I was pregnant with my baby girl Isabella, I developed gestational diabetes. After she was born 5 months ago, they were still giving me insulin to help, my numbers were in the low 20's, and I couldnt deal with those numbers. When I was released from the hospital I stopped taking the insulin. 3 months later I decided to see what my HA1C was. I went to express care to be seen since I had to wait to see the health department doctor for 3 months.

My HA1C was 9.7 which is very high. When I was pregnant it was 7 which your A1C needs to be 6 or below. When I was at 7 that seemed attanable, now I don't know what to do. So the express care doctors put me on Metformin and a blood pressure medicine which also doubles as a pill to protect my kidneys while on metformin. I was given 3 refills on both and sent to diabetes classes.

I finish my diabetes classes on may 10th, which I will be given a diabetic diet just for me. Hopefully I lose weight on that diet. They said you should lose one pound a day on it. anyways, now that I needed refills on the pills mentioned above, I knew I had to find a doctor near me and that would also take my insurance. so a few weeks before I ran out of refills, I found a doctor who is about 10 minutes away from me who also accepts my insurance.

I had an appointment for monday 4/8 at 2pm. I did have to wait awhile once I got into the room, but when he came in I was happy I picked him. He was very nice and treated me wonderful! I now have to go in for blood work on friday. But the reason why I am writing this under the heading of body by vi is because I told him I was doing the challenge and he told me to stop the challenge right away. He said that since my blood sugar numbers were still high, that it still meant that my body was not getting enough carbs to run my pancreas. So my liver is spilling sugar to compensate for the pancreas being slow.

He said I need protein's and carbs in food form NOT liquid. And I told him that by day 3 my husband and I wanted to eat the walls, he said thats because its not a carb that lasts you throughout till your next meal. He just asked that I please stay off of it till we can get my numbers under control. My husband is still doing one shake a day.

In other news, when I was at the doctors and they did my weight, I have lost 3 pounds total. So 2 more pounds and I will be at my first goal of 5 pounds. Going to just watch my food intake and see what happens at my next appointment which is the 22nd of this month. I will write a blog on that day about where my HA1C is at, and what the rest of the blood results are.

Thanks and have a wonderful week!!!

Best wishes to you, I am glad that you and your doctor are working things out.

I am not diabetic, so I don't know about that. I do believe that such fad diets and shake programs are not sustainable, and probably not the best choice. For me, I have been happy that with the choices I have been making, that I have not been overly hungry and still I am able to lose weight, by eating a balanced mixture of nutritious foods with a proper ratio of protein, carbs, and some fats. I hope you find a formula that works for you.

It is cool that you are getting a custom diabetic diet -- although the fact that it expects a pound a day is a bit alarming and off to me.

Remember that this is a journey and a lifestyle change. Slow and steady really does win this race.
