drowning sorrows in grease

Beats alcohol as a solvent for the sorrows, anyway. Went to a Michigan bar called Duffy's down in Chicago to watch the national championship game with fellow Wolverines fans, and had most of a good time. It was a good game, and the boys in Maize and Blue put forth a performance, and a whole season to be proud of. The first half performance of Spike Albrecht had the whole bar going crazy, as a kid who hadn't ever scored more than 7 points in a game lit up the scoreboard for 17 in the first half. Even in the second half, as Louisville inexorably inched ahead, it was a great atmosphere. I've been to Duffy's before, on a non game day. I'll definitely visit that place again for a game some time.
The drowning of sorrows refers to the Taco Bell I grabbed during the 45 minutes drive back to the hotel. Took that long because I never did quite figure out where the interstate was, what with a dead phone battery robbing me of gps.
I ended up walking a decent bit to get to the bar (and back to my car thereafter), as I parked in the guest parking lot of a hospital run by the group I work for. I still figured on having to pay, but there was no one on duty when I got back after the game, and the gate went up when I neared it, so, uh, at least that was something good out of the evening. Oh, and I also won both of the brackets I entered this year, but given the instrument of that victory (I picked Louisville to beat Michigan prior to the tourney), I really wish I'd lost the bragging rights. Yeah, not even a piddling bit of cash to lessen the blow.
Oh well...sicks to be so close and not get the prize. It was 20 years ago the last time Michigan played for the title...here's hoping it isn't another 20 years before they have another shot at the ring.
