Baseball Shorts have Pockets

Monday, April 08, 2013

I work at a high school ... anyway .. earlier this year our baseball/softball storage shed was robbed ..

I know, right! ... who wants old, smelly stuff from high school teenagers ?? I had visions of someone setting up their own stinky, sweaty team with our broken down used stuff ...

Anyway, our mom's and dad's and folks in the neighborhood at school are busy just trying not to get evicted and eat somewhat regularly .. so fundraisers fall on coaches and kids .. and by default .. teachers.

Apparently I know .. or currently have ... or have had ... every baseball and softball player in a class .. and I also have "sucker" for a sad story written on my forehead.

Seriously.

Because they were "raising money to replace their old wrongfully plundered .. umm .. stuff" and they "just knew I wanted to help" ..

and as with all our school fundraisers .. you forget you ordered stuff and a couple of months later here it comes ...

So I have a new baseball cap -- super stylin' because it's a snap back. I told the kids I've been hip since way before they were born -- I'm not sure I've owned any cap that wasn't a snap back.

a new really cool sweatshirt .. not as useful now that it's about to be 100 plus degrees everyday.

four new t-shirts .. those are handy ..

AND ....

a pair of baseball shorts -- why? I don't know. I'm not a shorts person.

Upon delivery of said shorts .. there were skeptical yet hopeful looks from said young man .. I am not currently .. shall we politely say ... very short size friendly and I'm pretty sure this kiddo had visions of a viral youtube video funding his future college or technical school endeavors ..

~ NOT happening ..

I may be a sucker but I'm not stupid ..

So anyway ..

3 days in a row ... excited and hopeful voice "have you worn your shorts?" .. I have no idea why he cares so much ..

but in the interest of keeping peace and serenity in our classroom .. today I more or less stated that I'd try them on tonight and if they fit I'd go for a walk in them ..

I actually got home early for once, and put on my snugly, pretend you have an hour, lets read a book, amazingly comfy, ain't leaving the house, neck to ankles, sweatshirt material, house dress thingy ..

and two hours later remembered my promise.

Sooo ..

I took my new baseball shorts out of the drawer of "things never to be worn in public" ... and tried them on ..

and they aren't loose loose .. but they fit ... so I added my "Inspired" shirt from the Komen walk that I didn't walk last weekend .. socks .. shoes ..

and carefully opened the door ..

it's dark by then .. but I checked both ways to be sure there were no kids with visions of viral videos around ..

and walked a bit .. up the hill and block ....

and discovered ...

that baseball shorts have pockets!

Who knew?!?!

that will be useful in the future when these shorts are super loose.

Because loose loose is coming ..

I feel it with every extra step I take.

Love this blog - and love that you pushed yourself outside of your comfort zone! Loose loose is definitely on the way!

Great blog! I can just imagine the secret night-time debut of the shorts! Ha, ha!
Congratulations on being a nice person (NOT A SUCKER) and on getting those shorts out of the house! Woo hoo!
