1st Vlog attempt! Introduction

some words about who I am, and why I do this video!

Hello everyone! My name is Kiki ,and I have been a member of sp for 3 months, and this is my first video blog in my attempt to boost my motivation. It is the very first time I make a public video of my self and as you can see I am quite self-conscious about it and very awkward, but at the same time I am proud of going through with it! I want to apologize for my English! I know that my pronunciation especially, my grammar, my syntax... I know that they are not food...! But I told myself I would do this no matter what, so to anyone that is watching me : "Thank you for your understanding"

So, I am 26 years old, I am from Greece, and I study medicine. I joined sparkpeople 3 months ago and my goal is to lose 12 kilos (26 pounds). So I don't have too much to lose which is great, but on the downside the calorie range in order to lose weight must be between 1200-1550 which is rather low :(


The first 2 months since I joined sparkpeople, I had exams in the university, that were very very demanding, and exhausting! I focused all my efforts there, and I had no time or energy to take care of my nutrition or to exercise. During that time, as much as I could I was trying to lose weight mainly by eating within range but with not much success! I was spending most of my days at the campus, studying at the library and I would eat whatever was available at the coffee shop, and (as) you can imagine there were not many healthy choices!

Also as a student I am on a tight budget, and that creates one more difficulty for me. BEcause I think there is this thing, this triangle where we have HEALTHY, CHEAP, and FAST. So for every meal you can have only 2 of these qualities! so if you want to eat healthy you can have Cheap and healthy, but it requires time, or fast and healthy but then it would be more expensive. So... I had no money and no time I would end up with cheap and fast most of the time, ...cheap, fast and fattening!

But this has changed now! My money is still little, but my exams are over and I have much more free time to take care of my self , and to focus into adapting healthy habits at last add exercise into my schedule!

I really want to do this. I really want to lose these kilos, I gained them during this summer, during a very unpleasant period of my life, and I want to be able to fit into my clothes again.

I think SP can be a great help in that. I want to make a commitment and inform you about my progress at least once per week with a new video. Maybe I will keep a written blog too, but most of all I want to do the video version! I think ,because it is much more immediate it will give me a stronger motivation. If I know that people are really watching when I am talking about my progress, that will make me more determined to do well with my goals every week and come back to you with positive feedback!

    Hi Kiki-
emoticon job on your vlog!! ....... I really enjoyed and never worry about your accent, etc 'cause #1--Just think ............ I for ONE can't speek Greek, so you are bi-lingual ......... how wonderful! I love your beautiful face and your kind spirit! .......... You did just great ...... and I know you will continue.
On the grocery thing ............ How I know how expensive food is ..... and I am thinking if you have minutes to spend when grocery ads come out.......... if you check the sales ........ and always try to have good lean healthy protein (and of course plant proteins are cheaper AND fast to fix since you had that on your list) ........... I like to put Quinoa on various things as the seed is high in protein ............. and I eat a hard boiled egg when needing protein and it helps a lot! (Eggs are often on sale) ......

    Oh Kiki, I saw your vlog and had to come and check you out. You sounds like a wonderful young gal trying to do your best in alot of departments. I think your English is so good and you did excellent on your first vlog! What awesome plans you have for losing your weight. Good luck to you and I'm so happy that you're studying medicine.     Strange, the video didn't pull up on Ipad. I liked what you wrote though! I'm in your same shoes and its very easy to go over 1550 calories! Good luck!! emoticon

    Wow... I think you were great! I tell you one thing, I would never attempt to talk or write in Greek... LOL LOL!
Good luck with the motivation from Sparkpeople, because there is plenty of it.
I cook just for myself as I guess you are..... and, I have learned to cook a few meals at a time with leftovers to eat the next day or two and then freeze the rest for a later day. That way I'm not cooking every darn day, so that's a time saver!

    Hi Kiki. Your English is very good. I didn't have no problem understanding you. I know what you mean about healthy foods being expensive. I live on a tight budget too. I buy what ever is on sale. I eat a lot of cucumbers, green peppers, celery or carrots. The fresh fish is high here. So at Walmart they have big bags of Talipia I buy. For about $11.00 it has a lot of servings.     I think you did a great job on your vlog. It sounds like you have some good goals. Could you possibly plan ahead when you have the time and make some healthy cheap food that's ready to eat. I do that on the weekends for my lunches during the week. I'll make a big pot of soup that I can reheat throughout the week. I'll look for dishes that I can make a big bowl and eat from that throughout the week then.
