I saw it! I have been waiting to see it for awhile now. I was beginning to think I never would see it. It seems to have taken a much longer time this time. But Friday night I caught a glimpse! At first I thought it was an exercise induced hallucination. After all, as a test, I had just climbed Kilimanjaro. So I wasnít sure if I was imagining things, or if it was real! But as I looked closer, I could see it! I really could! My leg didnít quite look like a blob anymore! There was a little bit of muscle definition there. Finally! I have obviously seen other changes, but this one is important to me. As a former football player, I have always had strong and well developed legs. So, it was nice to see the work paying off.
Now on to the weekend. I had a great weekend. I woke up early Saturday morning since I needed to fix my rear tire on my road bike. I had planned on doing quite a bit of riding. So, I started to fix it, but it turned out to be an issue with the tire, not the tube, so off to the bike shop I go. 2 new tires later I am on my way back home. Get the new tire on the back and then wake up the son. He and I had planned on a ride together. But we had to run to his momís to get his bike. So, off we go! Get there, grab his bike. And down to our favorite route along the Ohio and Great Miami Rivers. Very low traveled roads by car and Saturday was no exception. We saw more bikes on the road than motor vehicles. We park in the lot, gear up and coast down the hill.
Thump, thump, thump! What in the heck is wrong with my back wheel now!?!? Dang it, the tire isnít seated right! Shoot, a half mile down a hill Oh crap, forgot my frame pump! The big pump is a half mile up the hill in the car. Son, do you mind riding up bringing the car down then you can coast back down the hill? No dad, thatís cool. So, 15 minutes later, got that fixed. Son is coming down at a good clip, so I start back out. Suddenly I am having trouble pedaling and something is not right! Wham, chain pops off on the front! Son says, ďDad, there will come a point where I tell you no, I am not riding up the hill again to get the car.Ē Smartaleck. Hmmm, he must get that from his dad!
Chain back on, seems to be shifting well now. Off we go! It was a great ride and as usual my son lived up to why he is my favorite riding partner. Although all my cardio paid off. Usually the skinny little 16 year old cross country runner dusts me on the uphill sections. Saturday, I held my own. Granted he hasnít been running, but it still made me feel good. And on the final climb to the car, remember he had to climb that earlier. I usually have to walk it the first few times. Saturday, I made it! No stopping or walking. I made the climb after 20 miles of pretty decent riding. We did 20.9 miles at a 15.4 mph average! I will take that for the first time out. More than that, I will take making that climb the first time out. Saddest part is, it really isnít much of a hill. It just usually gets me.
Then I was off to the park with the youngest and one of her friends. They rode, my butt was too sore from the earlier ride. So, while they rode 4 miles on the path, I walked one lap of 2 miles with the pup. All in all a great Saturday!
