The Therapy I Needed (with pic)

Monday, April 08, 2013

I've been feeling stressed and pressured and overwhelmed...I'm not going to list all the reasons here because I need to get to bed and don't want to stir up all those feelings again. But I did get what I needed for therapy this weekend: some sunshine, time with family, an inspiring worship service, the chance to read a good book (the new Darling Dahlias mystery) a good long run and, FINALLY, a chance to get out into the garden.

This weekend: roses pruned and fertilized, climbers tied on trellis, flower beds cleaned up, spinach, lettuce, radishes, turnips, kale and chard planted, asparagus cut back and mulched, rhubarb fertilized, grapevines pruned, and new fruit trees planted. So now I say, bring on the rain!

I picked a big bouquet of daffodils to take to the library tomorrow. From the farm, I brought home a vase of mom's hyacinths, still blooming strong after all these years of neglect since she died. Their perfume fills the whole house!

My sister has been scanning some old family photos from the huge collection of slides that Dad had taken over the years. I see from this one that the gardening bug must have struck when I was quite young!

Wishing everyone a delightful week of finding blessings in the small things.

What great therapies! I'm jealous it's warm gardening weather where you are. It's still snowy here in Alaska!

Aww...that's so cute! Glad you found some peace through your positive activities. Atta girl. That's what it takes. A little "self-medicating" with positive activities is just what the doctor ordered. Keep up the good work! Thanks for the encouragement! Spark on! emoticon emoticon

What a great picture! I've been going through all the old family pics that were stored at my mom's, now that she sold her house and moved to assisted living. It has been a really fun "journey."

I've been doing "house therapy" getting ready to put my house on the market.

Oh, that gardening sounds so healing. I hope you are able to work through some of what is bothering you so much by just letting your mind wander. I'm a tad bit envious of your lovely garden! emoticon

What's that saying about finding the blessings in small things, and then realizing they were not small things after all? Sounds like you channeled your inner peace quite nicely this past weekend, Leah. Obviously, just from what you shared, it looks like you accomplished a lot. Good for you! I'll take a page from that, and apply it to what I need to do, too. Thank you.
