Elderly? Whatdaya Mean Elderly?

Sunday, April 07, 2013

Today my SIL said something to me that simultaneously amused me & startled me.

We were talking about the senior complex I live in & concern about the rapid shifting from this being an independent living for reasonably active retirees to an obvious nursing home. Almost every week in the going on 4 months that we've had almost a death a week.

And the active, independent seniors are moving out in faster numbers.

Anyway, my SIL who is FIVE years younger then I am (57) to my 62, completely grey (I'm not) and a litany of health issues said "unfortunately this tends to happen a lot (referring to the exodus) when you rent to the disabled & the ELDERLY"!

Sez what? Elderly?

I had to restrain myself myself from bursting out laughing. Unfortunately her attitude permeates this complex even among Management. There seems to be a tacit unspoken agreement to have ppl vegetate, watch TV & die. Any attempts for life & living is quietly discourage.

I've decided quietly to start a revolution. Lol. I've figured out that many tenants don't really stir until after 8am & in their apts before 9pm. I'm going to start walking the building in 15 minute increments 3-4 times a day since I'm up & moving by 5:30.
At daylight some of the walks will occur outside. Who knows maybe in time someone will join me but even they don't I'll get steps in until I can move out.

No Dusty. I tried that management micro-manages. These are women in their late 40s & early 50s using every stereotype one can think of. They sincerely think they are doung the right thing.

Maybe you could put up a notice (Rec Room, etc.) asking if others would like to join you in doing more active things. Not just exercise but movies, hikes, bowling, mall, art exhibits, etc. Well hikes and bowling are exercise:) but you know what I mean:)
