Old Soldiers Never Die

Sunday, April 07, 2013

My grandfather passed away last night. He was 90 years old and he just plain wore out. I'm glad I went to see him yesterday. I have been prepared for this for a month or so now...I knew he would never get out of the hospital.

He was a great man. A bricklayer by trade. He was a veteran of WW2. He was 18 years old when they landed on the beaches in Italy and drove the Germans back. He was wounded and found himself in England before being sent back to his unit. He survived the heaviest fighting the Canadian army had ever seen. Most of his friends did not survive.

I will miss my Grampa...

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. He sounds like a great person. May he rest in peace.
