Friday night salsa...

Saturday, April 06, 2013

Friday night salsa went great! I got all gussied up in one of my favorite dresses (because it flares beautifully when twirled)...

I was pleasantly surprised to see my younger brother at the salsa class :) I mentioned in passing to him over the phone that I would be going and he was welcome to join. Didn't think he would show up! We are 8 years apart in age and he's still a college student, so it was nice to spend some quality time together. I ran into some friends and made new ones that night. It was a good turn out thus a lot of people to mingle with. And to top things off I really connected well with one nice gentleman, M., who was also new to salsa. We must have talked for at least 2 hours after the open dance.

However, I learned early on in our conversation that he's from Virginia and only staying in Arizona for one more week to help out his father (who is having some health issues). A part of me realized once I knew he was an out-of-towner, I should have politely excused myself so I could mingle with potentially other single men who were local. But I was having such a great time swapping world travel stories with M. and talking about our shared interests in various film genres that I ignored my better judgement.

As I mentioned in other blog posts, I seriously need to tackle this bad habit... I don't have qualms going out on my own and meeting new people, but I have horrible "mingling" skills. Once I find one or two people I connect with, I just spend the majority of the function/party/etc. with them and don't mingle with the rest of the guests/party goers/etc. Well, I'll just have to keep plugging away... :)

I'll have another chance to improve my mingling skills tonight, as there is a free salsa class and open dance at a restaurant near where I live. The same instructors who taught last night will be there teaching (they are wonderful! and really funny, too). This is a new venue -- they only started last Saturday. The instructor claims they had nearly 300 people show up for the grand opening salsa night! emoticon So if they were ever an opportunity to mingle, tonight would be as good as any.

Some photos from last night...

Wow! Congratulations on getting out and trying something new! It sounds like a great experience, and Salsa is suppose to be so good for our waistlines. emoticon Hope your next class is even more fun.

Sounds like you had a blast! This salsa dancing is becoming quite the passion of yours!

Also, don't worry about spending the majority of your time with one person, or a particular group of people. You can't be friends with everyone...plus it's a nice feeling when you are comfortable with certain people.

P.S. - You look very beautiful in your photo! emoticon

That sounds like a FUN night !!

And don't criticize yourself for having a good time chatting with M. There will be plenty of other opportunities to mix and mingle with other singles later on. You both were enjoying yourselves and that's what counts. Bummer that M is from out of town, but it's nice to know some guys still enjoy a good conversation.

I'd love to learn how to salsa or ballroom dance. I just love dancing. I tell my spinning class if they want to see how really uncoordinated I am, just watch me do Zumba. LOL !!

Taking salsa lessons is a great way to meet people. And even if you don't meet a guy per se, you might meet a woman who has a brother or co-worker who's single. Yah never know....

Love the red lipstick ! You look great.
